Warning: Don’t bother shopping at this branch if you forget your quarter.
As a whole Aldi has very good prices which makes it my go to grocery shop. However some of the low price products, cereal, cookies, have large amounts of high fructose corn syrup so make sure to read the labels if you want to eat clean.
The checkout staff in this St Charles store are much less friendly than in the Geneva store.
On Sunday afternoon I forgot a quarter and an irritable checkout person did not allow my daughter a cart from in the store, despite there being a train of about 10 at the back, and two in the line behind her cash register. There were only two lines open so it was a weird thing to enforce. This significantly reduced my shop as I was carrying the items. At checkout I had to go to the same cashier. As usual my cart was loaded and as I was walking away she repeatedly shouted ‘no’. It was strange so I looked around and she left her cash register came up to me me said that I couldn’t take the cart out of the store as I hadn’t paid for it. She then undermined her first interaction with my daughter, by saying you can only use a spare cart in the store if I needed to use one. What she did not bother to discover was that I was moving out of the way to pack the groceries in a bag I had just bought. Yes, afterwards my intention was to take it outside the store so I could unload it into my car, but I was going to bring the cart back in. It was an embarrassing experience as she in effect treated me as I’d expect someone to be treated if they were stealing an item.
It was one of those interactions that is so surreal and inappropriate that it takes a while for it to register. A bit like going for a nice walk around a park in the summer, when out of nowhere a dog runs up and bites you. My daughter was confused and upset by the incident, which I was not able to explain the logic of to her other than ‘when some people have a bad day, they take it out in other people.’
I’m waiting for Customer Services to reply to my email which I sent when I got home explaining the incident. No reply after 5 days, despite how how much they tell you you matter on their webpage. This has been a...
Read moreI love Aldi! And the way they get people to put away their own carts is genius and still works to this day which I'm sure the employees are thankful for. I wonder if they own a copyright to the patent? Either way this location is very clean and has a super friendly staff that I would love to thank for staying on the line. The selection of food here is very similar to any Aldi but it's food that other stores just don't carry. Even if you have never shopped here it's worth a try if you are looking for new items and did I mention they are usually super cheap! New shoppers just know 1. Bring a physical Quarter (lol) because the carts need one to unlock. And 2. They don't give bags either bring your own, buy theirs (fair priced and reusable if you keep them good condition) or grab empty boxes in store (they don't mind) to use to carry items home. 3. P.S. don't forget to return cart for your quarter or exchange another shopper heading in ( commonly happens among Aldi...
Read moreI really used to like Aldi but they don't seem to really have any concern for customers anymore. They're always super fast checking people out. This time when I checked out the guy checking me out pushed my cart with my purse into the open area so he could pull an empty cart. Problem was I needed by purse to pay. I has to go grab my purse that had been pushed into the walkway. Felt super rushed and like corporate is pushing these poor cashiers to rush out the customers.
The Simply Nature brand isn't as organic as it used to be. Notice some things that used to be organic are now only GMO free and "natural". Felt a little misled when I bought my typical applesauce to find out its no longer organic.
Still good place to pick up a few items when in a hurry or to save money on basic...
