Peter is a salesman in the worst way, I would not trust half the words that come out of his mouth. He told me that he cared about the work that he did, the satisfaction of his clients, and the history of the pieces. But my experience at his shop did not make me feel that these were true words.
I brought in my grandmother’s bracelet watch to be lengthened. The piece has individual links that are all unique, so it needed new links cast and custom hinge work in order to extend it. I have done lost wax casting before. But with the custom hinges and it being my grandmothers watch I felt it best to go to a professional. I also asked for the watch to be looked at to see if it would be possible to get it working again.
When I was called in to look at it I found their job to be unsatisfactory. The links, which I had asked to be split between the two sides were all together, 4 identical links which did not blend in to the original design. The new links were also not fixed in place. They were able to shift left and right independent of each other. Imagine a safety pin holding each link together where each link is able to slide linearly and independently of the link above. This was unlike the original links, which were fixed from linear motion and only allowed to rotate as a normal watchband does.
Either Peter did not look at his employees’ work, or he did not care that it was done so poorly. In fact, he had the audacity to tell me over the phone that the links that they made were stronger and better than the unique custom work on the original bracelet. I felt lied to and gaslit.
I was also told that the watch mechanism was too dirty to fix and would cost at least $350 to repair. I said that if that was the case the watch working wasn’t necessary and asked for the hinge mechanisms to be fixed and the links to be put where we originally agreed they would be.
The second round was much better. I was told how “lucky” I was that the watch was able to be repaired for no extra money. I brought up some of my concerns that the hinges still weren’t quite to my liking, and instead of responding to me he talked over me to the man I brought along. Peter said that given the craftsmanship of the previous watch that there was no better that could be done. This I disagree with, considering that the craftsmanship of the original watch was better than what he did. Ultimately I took and paid for the watch because I did not want to continue being talked over and talked down to. I will be going to another jeweler.
Upon further inspection it also appears that they deformed one of the original links, squishing it so that it would match the width of the new link placed beside it.
I do not recommend Peter...
Read moreI will only go to Peter Suchy's as my jeweler! I got my antique engagement ring and wedding band here in 2014. In March of this year I noticed the center stone had a little movement so I stopped wearing it for fear of losing the stone. Fast forward... pandemic hit and my husband and I moved to Boston.
Over the summer I was referred to a jewelry store in Worcester MA by my best friend to see about my ring being fixed. (I now live about 3 hours from Peter Suchy's) I cannot begin to explain how poorly I was treated. I was first asked if I had bought it there, to which I replied no because I had just moved back to the state. This woman then told me my ring needed to be rebuilt to the tune of $5-6K! I was not prepared for that at all! I said I had to think about it and asked her if she would check the diamonds on my band. I took it off and she took the ring and WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT she handed it back to me and told me my ring was hollow?! The ring has an open channel on the inside, it is NOT HOLLOW! I was shocked but felt pressured to leave it there for them to get an estimate for me to at least reinforce the prongs she said were, "barely there." I left the ring and was back there about 20 mins later to get it because my gut told me I could not leave it there. I was in tears as I got in my car.
I called Peter Suchy's immediately and spoke with Nicole. She totally put me at ease about the situation. She apologized for this other woman's behavior and said whenever I could get the ring there she would take care of it. Now it took until this past week for me to get to CT. WHAT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE I HAD!! Peter immediately came over and examined my ring. He showed me under the microscope that there was PLENTY of prongs on top of the stone and as it turns out the little movement was negligible. I didn't wear my ring for almost a year and there was nothing wrong with it. He said it was in as good a shape as the day I got it. I walked out the door with my stone tightened and both of my rings complimentarily cleaned and on my finger. This woman was trying to rip me off. Peter is so honest and the jewelry in his store is gorgeous. I will never go to anyone else. He told me in the future that I can call and mail it to him if anything ever needs to be fixed, as he sells a lot of jewelry online also. The customer service and quality of jewelry here is the best and I recommend you come here first! Thank you so much for taking care of me Peter! I sincerely...
Read moreI’ve known Peter since he was creating jewelry at Forty Boutiques many years ago. I used to visit him almost every weekend when I was a kid and purchased my first piece from him, a gorgeous ring with his meticulously crafted scrollwork. All my special jewelry has come from him including my engagement ring and anniversary rings, and I travel a couple hours to get to him now. I don’t go anyplace else for jewelry that will be a part of me and my identity for many years. Recently there was an issue with a ring I purchased from him. He went above and beyond to repair it… not only at no cost to me, but he also replaced the diamond with one that was of a better quality and value. He felt terrible about the situation and wanted to “make things right.” He is still the kind, humble and honest man I met so long ago. I’m always very happy to have his attention at the store and appreciate the respect he has for his customers. You can always trust him to do what’s...
