I live between Statesboro and Savannah and will always choose the Statesboro government locations over any building in Chatham county. The wait times are always shorter and the service is usually 200 times better.
But this location has taken a turn for the worst unfortunately. The only reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because of Ms Thomas. (More on that Saint of a woman later)
When I called to see if they were taking appointments, I got a gentleman who, at first was helpful. Maybe a little too helpful. I started to get a bit concerned when he started asking literally every question you're never supposed to answer on the phone: full name, dob, ssn, mother's maiden name, city of birth etc. But then he just got obnoxiously rude! I'd ask a question and he'd respond, but as I'm trying to follow up he just kept taking and talking. I need to do a name change and we were talking about the documentation I'd need to proceed. He was telling me that I'd need some outlandish proof of identification in my former married name: a credit card in a name I haven't used in 15 years?!? I finally just had to hang up on him because he wouldn't take a breath long enough for me to ask a question! I had to call another location to get the correct information.
Then, when I arrived the security guard screamed at me upon entry "NO COFFEE!!!!". I didn't even see her through the blacked out windows in the entrance so it startled me to receive such an unpleasant greeting! When I came back in and attempted to check in again, she shouted at me again! "YOU NEED A MASK!!" Dear Lord. So, I put on a mask and before attempting to even touch the kiosk a third time, decided I should ask if there were any other requirements. There's no sign at the door with a list of the things that had been shouted at me thus far, or if there was, I didn't see it. There are so many signs posted.
Anyway, I stood in the doorway and asked if there was anything else I needed to do. She ignored me. Head down doing whatever she was doing. "Excuse me ma'am?". Blatantly ignoring continued. "Hello? Is there anything else I need to do before coming in?" Finally she responds with "well, if you expect to be seen today, you need to check in at the kiosk!". As if I hadn't been trying to do that for the last 15 minutes.
So, I check in at the kiosk, get a number and stand in the doorway to ask if I can come in and wait in the lobby. She proceeds to shout at me again "WINDOW 14, THROUGH THE DOOR ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT IN THE CORNER!". What a nasty human being!
Thankfully, when I made it down to window 14 the most precious person in the world was behind the window! Miss Thomas was so professional, pleasant, helpful, and just radiating positive energy. Appearances don't matter, but she was just so put together, definitely having a good day herself! She reviewed all my documents, kept what she needed to proceed and gave everything else back. It took all of, maybe,10 minutes. I hope she always receives back the positivity she puts out there. Thank you ma'am for helping make the most of an otherwise...
Read moreBeen here recently and discovered sign on the about no video or recording. Which happens to be false. Any member of the public can record in public lobbies, hallways, and corridors. That happens to be a public building. The setup don't create privacy for the public. I suggest if they don't have a private room for the public to give their info aloud then we will need to write the info down to the customer service agents. I saw a guy walk in and didn't see the kiosk, and the guard immediately yelled at him to fill out kiosk before he can enter. God forbid he had a general question for the guard. Although the guard is supposed to observe and report not give out directives. May need refund for our tax dollars. This place needs an audit. I'm sure they will infringe on someone's rights. Also the kiosk don't have a way for a public records request. I'd love to see a video of any citizen getting rejected by this place. I'm...
Read moreThree years ago my husband and I drove from Savannah, GA to the Statesboro, GA Social Security office to meet with the nicest SS representative. The Statesboro office came highly recommended as an office were you would not need to wait hours and the staff were professional and knowledgeable. All of our questions were answered and we left feeling confident about our upcoming retirement benefits. Three years later, April 2021, we had a question so we again called the Statesboro, GA office and after a informative conversation with a SS representative we were given an appointment for a call back with another representative at this office. Mrs. Thomas called us on the designated day and reviewed our individual situation. She was knowledgeable and gave us exact information as it pertained to our situation. Both Mrs. Thomas and the first representative we spoke with who we failed to get her name went above and...
