Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts: Planters was founded by Italian immigrant Amedeo Obici in 1906. It wasn't until 1916 though that the company's icon Mr. Peanut was created. Supposedly a grade schooler by the name of Antonio Gentile designed Mr. Peanut for a contest conducted by the company. Mr. Peanut is the icon although he has changed somewhat over the years. Their honey roasted peanuts are made by taking whole peanuts and then dry roasting them with honey and seasoned with salt. As much as I enjoy peanut butter (I eat it daily) I've never been a fan of consuming actual nuts. You all know I have a sweet tooth though, so I am willing to make an exception when sweet honey is added into the mix. I've loved honey since I was five years old and would dip my Chicken McNuggets into it. The honey does the trick here and when combined with the peanuts makes for a fantastic sweet and salty combination. Doughboy approved. It's been at least 15-20 years since I was here and took me back the minute I walked in the door. Staff was very nice and you can not beat the taste of their roasted peanuts. No matter if you get the chocolate ones, plain ones or the peanut brittle ( that melts instead of ripping out your teeth like the commercial ones).
