UPDATE: We had a very good conversation with the owner about our experience. Because of his out reach, we have deciding to give Plaid Turnip another try so we can have the experience we should have had the first time. I give kudos to any owner willing to discuss bad reviews instead of making excuses and hiding from them. It takes a strong leader to omit errors with their process and and an even bigger person that is willing to correct them. If the intended experience is even close to the owners commitment, our next visit should be amazing. I will update upon our return to the restaurant. My husband and myself were the first to arrive and we asked for a beer/wine menu. The waitress went to the bar and wrote down the beers on draft on a piece of paper and handed it to us. I asked what wines do you have and she said all house wines. While trying to figure out what alcoholic beverages were available, our other couple walks in and asks for a liquor menu. The waitress said, “Just tell me what you want and I can see if we can make it.” What establishment does not have a beer/wine/liquor menu?? Our final couple walks in and I order three apps for the table. The hummus (chefs choice), fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese. Waitress was clueless about which hummus was chefs choice. The apps were not horrible, but pretty average. Then we tell the waitress we need a few more minutes to look over the menu and she just lingers. At this point, I feel like we are being rushed. Our reservations were at 8pm and if you can’t accommodate a party of 6 at that time, you should not accept a reservation.

We order our dinner, or at least try. My girlfriend wanted the prime rib. They were out, so she shifted to the specials menu and ordered the Short Ribs with mushroom ravioli. My husband order the same dish. My other girlfriend and myself ordered the fried green tomato and eggplant Parmesan with linguine and the two other men order a chicken Alfredo and a build your own BBQ with ribs and brisk with three sides one of which were green beans.

1st issue - After our order was placed, we find out only one serving of linguine is left- okay not a big deal restaurants run out of stuff. My girlfriend said she would switch hers to penne.

2nd issue - both “Short Rib” dinners come out and it is pot roast meat. The manager is called over and when my husband asks how they can be short ribs. The manager responds, they are boneless. He said no ma’am it looks like chuck roast. She again very curtly corrected him and said it was short rib and that is how they bought it. My husband stated to her, “You have a problem with your supplier and you can’t tell the difference between chuck roast and a Short rib.” He asked that it be removed from our table. The menu did not indicate boneless short ribs. Our girlfriend who wanted the steak but ordered short rib special just ate the ravioli.

3rd issue - Our friend who ordered the BBQ brisket said it was also chuck. He then let everyone at the table to try his green beans and asked if it tasted sweet. Upon making our comments, the manager literally shouted from the behind kitchen partition “They are not sweet!” Appallingly and very discourteous.

The other menu items order by the other friends at the table were also not amazing and not even worth taking home for leftovers.

4th issue- As we tried to finish our meals the staff is cleaning and flipping up chairs. THIS IS A HUGE OFFENSE FOR ME!! The hours posted on the door say they are open until 10 and we are flipping chairs at 8:45 while patrons are still having dinner!!! We rushed to finished up our dinner and pay the bill. Mind you we would have had another round of drinks and dessert if our experience wasn’t so terrible.

5th issue - I let this one slide because frankly I didn’t want to have to deal with the manager again, but I noticed two random charges for breakfast side at $1.50 a piece. What the hell was that for?? So a $3.00 extra charge was...

Google reviews had people raving. And maybe it is amazing when it's not the holidays. We found this as a suggestion on Google maps while coming through town. There is zero signage outside to indicate where to go. It took finding a review and asking a gentleman outside if we were in the right vicinity. Coming inside, we were greeted and asked if we had a reservation. Must be great food to need a reservation! We got here 10:55, we were served at noon. Out of our three orders, the Meatzilla was the one to rave about. The Crabacado filled the dish and left little to the imagination. They definitely use extra breading to sweeten the crab cake that is folded into the omelette. The grits that came with the dish, definitely prepared way before the omelette, so there was a thick coat of setting when the food arrived. I ordered the Upstream Eggs Benedict. Hollandaise sauce was light and creamy, the salmon was a little undercooked to my preference and I chose to skip the red onion and capers. In our experience, The Plaid Turnip has a wonderful presentational setup. The establishment smells amazing and wonderful when you enter, but you are going to get full on smells alone waiting for your food. I dont blame this on the business, but rather DoorDash and other pickup deliveries. When we asked on a time check for our food, they had been slammed with online orders and had to prioritize them. In all honesty, not a bad experience and will visit again during slow season when we come...

(update: we have ordered from here for at least 10 times now. Their food is good. Really great pancakes. However the trend of missing items continues .... I would say 8 out of 10 times there's something missing, most of the time multiple items missing. It is fine if you ordered from door dash. At least you get your refund. I can't speak for other people who take it to go. Unfortunate. )

This was my second time ordering from them. The first time was couple weeks ago. Everything was delicious. We decided to order door dash from here for breakfast again today because it was very good. Today the food was good again, the breakfast platter was great, French toast was good, liver, no problems. There's a pretty severe issue with the salad I ordered.

The Cobb salad I ordered looked very pretty, avocado was fresh and green. I took a bite of the corn, it tasted odd, there was a alcoholic scent to it. so I picked around the corn. Looking closely there were visible sticky slime that pull strings from the corn grains.(and no that's not from the dressing because they didn't give me any salad dressing today so I had my salad plain) I think the corn went bad it was fermenting already. The corns on my salad looked like Japanese natto. Pretty sure you should check the freshness of your inventory. I threw my salad away because I was not sure if the rest of the ingredients in there was...

Sister and I were going to check out the local book convention so wanted to do a nice brunch while on the area. Plaid Turnip certainly did not disappoint. We arrived close to 11 and waited maybe 20 minutes to get a table for 2, so not unreasonable. Sis and I started with cocktails. I got the Champagne Screwdriver which was champagne, vodka, and orange juice. Sis got some type of fancy Bloody Mary. Both drunks were a great start to our meal. We ordered the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. Absolutely luscious with their balsamic glaze and goat cheese. Their wasa bit of a wait between appetizer and mains but we were enjoying our conversation and not in a rush. For mains, I ordered the pork belly pimento breakfast bowl and sis did the southern fried chicken breakfast bowl. Both dishes were absolutely amazing though I think my sister's bowl was slightly better than mine because of the delcious sausage gravy. Staff was great and super friendly and attentive. I would love to go back if I ever find myself in Suffolk again though I might make the drive just to try some of their other menu options.

Ok I have this place a second chance to right their wrong and again I was disappointed. The first time hair was in my kid eggs. I took pictures sent it to doordash and the restaurant manager. The restaurant manager blamed doordash and gave me a gift card to come back. Ok cool. Finally used the gift card today. Order food and went over my gift card amount. I paid difference. I open my food and look no meat. I called and the cooks SWEARS they put meat in my order. Two bacons and two sausage but where is it. One thing I'm not is a liar and who got time to be driving back and forth to restaurant. The fact Ms Debbie question me after y'all keep messing up my order basically made me feel a way. There was no onions in my home fries and i didn't complain. They been slammed all day to the fact I had to call them 2x to place my order. But he happens to remember my order? Yeah ok. And again the cooks trying to blame someone else for their mistake. Well needless im not wasting anymore gas to go get meat that they never put in my order. And I'm not spending no more money there. Oh well.
