⭐ Review: Horror Circus – Suffolk, VA

I attended the Horror Circus in Suffolk expecting a immersive horror experience—something theatrical, atmospheric, and professionally staged. That’s how it was marketed: as a full-blown circus event. What we got instead was a small stage show with cheap effects, minimal production value, and crude shock tactics masquerading as entertainment.

The most disturbing moment involved a clown character coercing a white man to “shoot” a Black man with a fake gun, followed by a simulated suicide. This was part of the act. It wasn’t symbolic. It wasn’t satirical. It was tasteless, racially charged, and emotionally jarring. There were no content warnings, no framing, and no artistic justification—just a grotesque scene that felt exploitative and spiritually off.

The entire event felt like a bait-and-switch. What was advertised as a high-production horror circus turned out to be a low-budget stage show I strongly advise skipping this event.

Horror can be powerful when it’s intentional, symbolic, and well-crafted. This was not. It was a mess—and not the kind that leaves you haunted in...

A Hidden Gem for Creatives and Kindred Spirits

Taking pottery classes at the Suffolk Cultural Arts Center has been an absolute joy, and the heart of that experience is Ms. Lisa, our incredible instructor. She brings a magical mix of patience, kindness, and creativity to every session. Lisa doesn’t just teach pottery—she inspires it. Her motto could easily be, “Anything is possible—let’s figure out how to make it.” And she means it.

What makes this class so special isn’t just the clay or the tools—it’s the environment Lisa cultivates: supportive, encouraging, and endlessly open to exploration. She gives freely of her time and energy, and her passion for the craft and her students is truly contagious.

Meeting Lisa is a life experience in itself. She’s currently leading efforts on the Empty Bowls Project, a powerful initiative to fight hunger through handmade art. It’s just one more example of how art and heart intersect in her presence.

If you’re looking for a creative outlet, a soulful space, or just a reason to get your hands muddy and your heart full—this class...

What a great performance for the show "Crazy for Patsy Cline". Not only was the show enjoyable, but the venue was nice. The center is in the middle of renovations, but they did a good job of hiding it. Although the stage should have been dust mopped before the performance, it was covered in dust and pollen. I do hope they address the seating in the Birdsong Stage during the renovations. They are very narrow unless you enjoy getting to know your new show neighbor intimately. Even with those 2 things, I still am giving it a 5 star rating. The folks that run and volunteer at the venue made in 5 stars and above, not to mention the wonderful show...

Great performances, beautiful & educational exhibits, tons of local art pieces and classes for all ages, all housed in this lovely, renovated historic space - a true cultural gathering place!

Beautiful place. Went to see the Suffolk Grand Illumination. The lights were bright and cheerful. The carriage ride was a wonderful ride with the girls. The girls had a wonderful time.
