â Review: Horror Circus â Suffolk, VA
I attended the Horror Circus in Suffolk expecting a immersive horror experienceâsomething theatrical, atmospheric, and professionally staged. Thatâs how it was marketed: as a full-blown circus event. What we got instead was a small stage show with cheap effects, minimal production value, and crude shock tactics masquerading as entertainment.
The most disturbing moment involved a clown character coercing a white man to âshootâ a Black man with a fake gun, followed by a simulated suicide. This was part of the act. It wasnât symbolic. It wasnât satirical. It was tasteless, racially charged, and emotionally jarring. There were no content warnings, no framing, and no artistic justificationâjust a grotesque scene that felt exploitative and spiritually off.
The entire event felt like a bait-and-switch. What was advertised as a high-production horror circus turned out to be a low-budget stage show I strongly advise skipping this event.
Horror can be powerful when itâs intentional, symbolic, and well-crafted. This was not. It was a messâand not the kind that leaves you haunted in...

Taking pottery classes at the Suffolk Cultural Arts Center has been an absolute joy, and the heart of that experience is Ms. Lisa, our incredible instructor. She brings a magical mix of patience, kindness, and creativity to every session. Lisa doesnât just teach potteryâshe inspires it. Her motto could easily be, âAnything is possibleâletâs figure out how to make it.â And she means it.
What makes this class so special isnât just the clay or the toolsâitâs the environment Lisa cultivates: supportive, encouraging, and endlessly open to exploration. She gives freely of her time and energy, and her passion for the craft and her students is truly contagious.
Meeting Lisa is a life experience in itself. Sheâs currently leading efforts on the Empty Bowls Project, a powerful initiative to fight hunger through handmade art. Itâs just one more example of how art and heart intersect in her presence.
If youâre looking for a creative outlet, a soulful space, or just a reason to get your hands muddy and your heart fullâthis class...
Read moreWhat a great performance for the show "Crazy for Patsy Cline". Not only was the show enjoyable, but the venue was nice. The center is in the middle of renovations, but they did a good job of hiding it. Although the stage should have been dust mopped before the performance, it was covered in dust and pollen. I do hope they address the seating in the Birdsong Stage during the renovations. They are very narrow unless you enjoy getting to know your new show neighbor intimately. Even with those 2 things, I still am giving it a 5 star rating. The folks that run and volunteer at the venue made in 5 stars and above, not to mention the wonderful show...
