The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks is, in general, a good organization which has done a great deal to improve the lives of many people.
They provide support on many levels to our veterans. The Elks also help children with special needs. Finally, the Elks provide extensive scholarships for students of limited means.
The Elks is what many would call a "service organization". The Elks have historically performed this role very well.
The Summit Lodge, not so much!
I have just one question for the Summit Lodge: In what universe does spending over $3,000,000 on a rooftop bar help the summit lodge support vets and or children with special needs?
The summit lodge embarked on a rooftop bar project to provide their members a more up to date place to get trashed at cheap prices. They spent over $3,000,000 on this project. This was totally unnecessary! The lodge already had a perfectly fine bar with plenty of space for their members. That money would have been much better spent on the vets and children with special needs, as opposed to a place where guys can swill alcohol and smoke cigars! Additionally, the Summit Lodge has been the target of extensive corruption, having lost track of large sums of money over several years. They know the thieves, and claim to be pursuing them, but after 2 years I do not see it!
The National Lodge should shut down the Summit Lodge, no doubt! Those guilty of robbing the Lodge should be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Join a different lodge which still believes in the founding principles, not creature comforts for people whom have little concern, in general, for the vets or needy children. Such a shame and black spot on a basically good organization! I am sure Summit does raise money for vets and children in need. Rather than being an afterthought, it should be their focus and their priority.
Join a different lodge, one that cares more for those in need than whether or not there is smoked glass on...
