4/25/24 I got a bad approach/wrong energy from an instructor/trainer. There was some equipment I wanted to use but it was near where a class was going on. There were the typical signs but they were on the turf area, not near the equipment I was interested in. I noticed a gentleman using some of that equipment so I approached him, “hey are you part of the class? Is this equipment (basically) off limits?” He wasn’t a class participant. He said, “no I’ve been here a while and no one has used it”. Me: “Thanks man”. So I set up and literally did 3 whole sets with my normal rest in between. This instructor and her class are 8 ft away and everyone has seen me over in the corner, so by this time I’ve long let go of the possibility I was in “her space” especially considering the other gentleman had done his entire routine w/ no prob. As The class starts to seemingly transition she walks over to me, “YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!!!” I guarantee you I’m not exaggerating. Im thinking “why the overkill??”. I say “ok I didn’t know that. That’s not a problem. Packing up now.” That wasn’t good enough. She shouts again “You are not supposed to be here!!!!” (-I’m curious if the security video was able to capture our different demeanor). Everybody that can hear her, they’re all looking, glancing over. She was the worst. Once again, calmly, “ok…” I put the equipment up. As I’m finishing she says, “well, she’s (a class participant) using this other one so you can finish.” But At this point I don’t even look at her, I just quickly respond with a “nope. You are GOOD…” -(didn’t need any “favors”. That whole side of the gym heard you tell me it was “off limits”, so it’s off limits). I had 2 issues: 1. Regardless of how I look, I’m about as lowkey a gym member as they come. I’m a member of 5 different gyms. Except for a few where I know a few people, I typically keep my head down and mind my business. I rarely even make eye contact with people for certain reasons. I don’t scream, drop weights, unnecessarily try to draw attention. So when she initiated dialogue but used “yelling”, or at the very least, “aggressive loud tone”, that made it seem/appear to others that, because she was yelling or being loud, that I MUST have been combative to an initial request from her, and she had to “take it to that level to make me understand”. And THAT pissed me off. 2nd issue: I’ve been in the Ohio/ky area for nearly a decade and can only remember one time a trainer at a gym (in Florence) was overly aggressive w/ me, and even she picked up on it soon after and although she didn’t apologize, she tried to nice things up a little. I’d say 99.9% of time trainers at most gyms are really good at communicating when areas are off limits, or when its approaching the time when they will be. The trainers at Oakley crunch are really good at informing and how they use their signs, placements, etc. I don’t frequent this crunch Kenwood but I definitely have had a trainer or two at this location in the past see me and say “hey we’ll be using this area in 10min” or, “hey this area is for a class until 630”,etc whatever. And to all the trainers that communicate normally w/ the members, It’s...
Read moreI recently joined Crunch Fitness Kenwood and have had an exceptional experience from day one. The gym boasts an impressive array of equipment, ranging from top-notch cardio machines to a comprehensive selection of free weights and dedicated functional training areas. The facility is always immaculately clean and well-maintained, which makes each workout enjoyable and hygienic.
One of the standout features of Crunch Fitness Kenwood is the staff. They are not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable. Whenever I've needed assistance or guidance, they've been readily available to help. Carolyn, the manager, deserves a special mention for her fantastic leadership and dedication to creating a supportive environment.
The group fitness classes at Crunch Fitness Kenwood are simply fantastic. The instructors are passionate and inspiring, pushing you to challenge yourself and achieve more in each session. It's evident that they genuinely care about the members' progress and well-being.
Another aspect that sets Crunch Fitness Kenwood apart is its affordability. Considering the quality of facilities and services offered here, the membership fees are quite reasonable compared to other gyms in the area. This combination of value for money and excellent amenities makes it a standout choice.
I also want to highlight Drew, one of the personal trainers at the gym. Drew's expertise and personalized approach have been instrumental in helping me reach my fitness goals. He's attentive, motivating, and genuinely invested in his clients' success.
In summary, I highly recommend Crunch Fitness Kenwood to anyone seeking a welcoming, well-equipped gym with a supportive atmosphere. Read moreThe gym itself is fine. Nothing especially distinctive that makes Crunch a great value or services that are offered to separate itself. No sauna or steam room. For folks who like group classes or want personal training may feel differently, but for me, I used the gym and its amenities mostly independently. The reason I gave Crunch Kenwood a lower rating was because of (likely corporate) policy and responsiveness from management. Crunch pretty consistently sent out email surveys about the gym experience and I tend to fill them out. I usually gave positive reviews, but when something came to mind, I mentioned it in the survey. For example, associates would come around and rerack free weights in illogical placements as folks were using them, which isn’t a big deal, but when I mentioned this in the survey, I got multiple contentious responses from management. I also did not appreciate monthly membership fees going up by 50% with less than a month’s notice. But most workers I interacted with at Crunch were professional and courteous, so these were likely a result of corporate pressure.
The chief reason for a lower rating however came as I went to cancel my membership (I have two kids under 4 and needed a family gym) I was charged over $93. Being charged the next month’s fee, I get, even if it is a bit annoying, but to be charged the annual membership charge despite canceling well before the charge date just because it was within 30 days of when it would be charged for NEXT year is bad policy and not a way to attract former customers back. So if you’re considering Crunch, just be aware of those policies. Again not the worst gym, just nothing...
