Get on the river early. We learned that in California, no one does anything before 10 am, so if you get on the river at 9:30, you will be the first one on the river. We seriously saw only two other rafting groups our whole two hours on the river, and they were from the blue company. The river was really low when we went, and the shuttle driver actually told us that they would likely be closed by the end of the week. Even with the low river, we only had to pull our raft over two small sections. It was a beautiful ride on the river and it was our favorite part of the trip. The ducks EXPECT food and will follow you along the river. It's so adorable, even though I refused to feed them because they aren't meant to eat human food.
The only reason they are getting 4 instead of 5 stars is because they really messed up the shuttle back to our car. Our river ride took about 2 hours, and then we had to wait an HOUR for the shuttle back to our cars. The workers on the river were actually shocked that after 35 minutes we still hadn't been picked up. We could have walked to our cars, but the drop off point and the car lot are on opposite sides of a VERY busy road, and we were told by workers to wait for the shuttle and not to walk. That obviously left a bad taste in our mouth. Other than that, we loved our time...
Read moreI had done this before as a child some 40 years ago and have fond memories of it. I don't get to visit Tahoe as often as I wish. When my wife and I were in the area for a wedding we had some time to our self and I suggested rafting on the Truckee to my wife, who I wasn't sure if she would be into it. But she loved the idea and after driving up from the town of Truckee stopped at one of the rafting companies randomly. The folks at 'Truckee River Raft Co.' were fantastic answered all our questions and made some recommendations. The next morning, having made a reservation the evening before online, we showed up and hit the river. Just the 2 of us, on a beautiful day floating down the Truckee. We had a somewhat early departure time so the river was not very crowded and we did spend some time kind of alone on the river enjoying the peace and quiet. I can imagine this would also be fun with a group of friends and family. Truckee River Raft Co. ends your journey at a restaurant with a wonderful riverside patio. As we enjoyed the patio I watched as boaters came down behind us. Happy that we had chosen Truckee River Raft Co. the staff were all friendly the price was reasonable the Raft was good quality and in good repair, and the river and trip...
Read moreIf you want to have a relaxed float and not have to worry about your raft popping, then go here. They have rafts big enough for the whole family and even a small ice chest. Everyone is given a lifejacket and kids and none-swimmers should wear them. While the float is slow and relaxed, there are some very deep areas, as well as some rockier parts. Bring sunscreen, water proof phone cases, a hat, water shoes, and snacks. Please don't be the person who brings glass bottles out onto the river, no one wants to step on glass, and please if you bring snacks, also bring a trash bag and be sure to not leave trash around. There is one or two port-a-jons along the float in case you need to go. The rockiest part is right before the end of the float, not bad at all if you are in a raft, if you have a friend in a store bought tube, they might pop. I've lost several tubes (cheap ones) in that last bend. When you do make it to the end, there is the restaurant, which has good food, and there is a bus to take you and the rental raft back to the top. Definitely a fun place to go. Depending on how much water they are letting out of the dam determines how fast you float. Normally it takes around 3 or 4...
