Let me just start by saying: if Motorworks ever releases a beer called The Smash Burger Saison, I’ll be first in line, holding a giant pretzel like it’s a microphone at a food sermon.

We stopped in for what we thought would be a quick bite. What actually happened was a full-blown flavor intervention—led by none other than Thomas, our server-slash-telepath. The man appeared every time we needed something. Napkins? Already there. Beer low? He's on it. Existential crisis about whether to order more deviled eggs? He’s got thoughts.

Let’s talk food. The pretzel? Enormous. Like, “this used to be part of a ship’s steering wheel” enormous. Perfectly salted and probably big enough to qualify as a flotation device.

The deviled eggs were the kind your Southern grandma would approve of—creamy, tangy, and gone in 60 seconds. (We didn’t even talk while eating them. Just nodded solemnly.)

And then… the smash burger. Good lord. If this burger ran for mayor, I’d vote for it. Easily one of the best in Tampa—crispy edges, juicy center, and the kind of bun that hugs the whole thing like it knows it's important.

Oh, and did I mention everything is discounted during happy hour? The whole dang menu. It’s like Motorworks wants you to make bad financial decisions… in the best possible way.

TL;DR: Go for the beer, stay for the burger, and try not to fall in love...

Big shoutout to Tom, who helped us discover the legendary Secret Red Door at Motorworks on Harbour Island. After kiving her for over a decade we always thought this was just a utility closet. We joked it was the entrance to Narnia, a speakeasy, or at least a staff-only beer vault?

The reality? It’s just a hallway to the parking garage. A long, fluorescent-lit, chair-stacked, trash-bin-lined corridor of pure disappointment. Honestly, C.S. Lewis would’ve quit writing on the spot.

Luckily, everything else here is the opposite of disappointing: the beers are 🔥 (Pulp Friction IPA and Midnight Espresso Porter = elite), the wings are perfect, and the atmosphere is just flat-out awesome.

So yeah, come for the beer and wings… and if you’re lucky, let Tom show you the door to “Narnia.” Just don’t expect a lion or a witch —...
