I placed my to-go order through American Social’s website at 7:57pm making it due at 8:12pm. Then I finished writing an email and took my time to put on shoes and make my way through a crowded hotel, onto the street and to the restaurant. I hadn’t eaten all day and had a raging headache. At the earliest, I arrived to American Social at 8:15pm. I waited for the hostess to seat a group then asked for my meal. I was told that it would be right up. The restaurant was loud with music and, at about 3/4 capacity --- at least on the inside --- with conversation. I stepped aside and tried not to let the noise bother my headache. I was not yet aware that I needed to keep track of the time, so estimate that I waited about ten minutes before I inquired again to the hostess about my order. She said that, as soon as the other hostess came back, she would go check. The other hostess came back and then walked away again before any exchange could take place between them. I realized that I was going to need to be assertive and stayed near the hostess stand now. When the other girl materialized again, the hostess to whom I had spoken went to the back. She came out 5 minutes later and, again, told me that the order would be right up. Now I was watching the clock. Another 15 minutes went by. I asked again. She sheepishly told me that she would find a manager (I hadn’t asked but I didn’t protest.) Then she was gone for over 10 minutes this time. The other hostess took over the stand. When I saw hostess number one again, she approached the man who I assume was the manager. After their exchange, he walked in the opposite direction of the hostess stand where I was now hovering. The hostess came back and told me that he would be with me in a few minutes. Another 10 minutes. Then this man came over and immediately told me that the restaurant was busy and that a large table was seated just after my order was placed. So, he was not only aware of the time of my order but that a large group, having arrived after, superseded my order. I told him that I could understand a take-out order coming up a few minutes late but that the amount of time that I had now waited for a burger and fries was not acceptable. He stated that he had no control over these things. I was about to ask him, “If the manager does not have control, who does?” I was also about to ask for a refund so that I could leave that rotten place and find something else to eat. At that moment, the hostess came from the kitchen and handed me my bag. I turned around and left while this sad excuse for a manager was still babbling about how he can’t possibly be asked to maintain a timeframe for online orders. I do not know exactly how long I waited because I didn’t start off keeping track, but I know that I walked back into my hotel room at 9:10pm. This means I spent at least 40 minutes standing and waiting in a tight restaurant entrance for a simple take-out order. As if that wasn’t bad enough, when a manager was asked to address this situation, he approached me defensively rather than even implying some sort of apology. None of this was okay under any circumstances but, walking back starving I can remember thinking that, if the food is good, then at least all of this will not have been in vain. No such luck. The fries were freezing cold. The burger was tepid. I could tell from the menu that even though I wasn't ordering the “Smashburger,” all of their burgers were going to be in the smashed format. So, I wasn't expecting pink and dripping. Nor was I expecting a high quality of meat. However, nothing could have prepared me for the two flat pieces of lawn sod that were supposed to serve as my dinner. It occurred to me to throw the patties out and try to construct some sort of sandwich out of the oily cheese and mushrooms, but the bun was so burnt that it was almost inedible. Then to add absolute insult to injury, I bit down on something very hard. A piece of bone?!? Whatever it was and regardless of how hungry I was, I simply could not keep eating this...

Read moreWe came in yesterday as a group of six, all of us over the age of 21. Upon being seated, we all ordered alcoholic beverages, and our IDs were all checked and then taken to the back by our server Kathryn. After about 15 minutes, Kathryn finally came back with our waters and told us our IDs were still back in the bar being checked and to be patient because they’re doing STING operations and trying to be diligent. For the next 30 minutes, we got to watch as other people were seated around us and served their food and beverages. Meanwhile, our server was nowhere to be found and refused to acknowledge our attempts to grab her attention to figure out what was going on. After a total wait of about 45 minutes, a lady finally came out with our IDs in hand, and proceeded to ask me for a second form of ID with both my date of birth and picture. (the only thing I can even think of that meets these requirements is my passport, and who even carries that around) after telling her I could not provide a second form despite having multiple credit cards and other things I could show her to verify who I was, she said “I’m going to be really nice and give this back to u, but we don’t feel comfortable serving you” she then proceeded to tell my friend that because his ID was peeling at the top it was no longer valid and he would need a second form as well. After getting this news, we informed this woman to cancel our food orders because we wanted to leave, she then proceeded to try and convince us to stay for the food. Although American social wasted 45 minutes of our Saturday morning, the day was not completely ruined because we were treated great at Water and Flour, by a service and management that knows how to treat a customer (and check IDs). What a shame AMSO, this was a place all 6 of us frequented since we live here and go to UT but will definitely not be returning. Upon further inspection, this seems to be a common problem recently with people as old as 30, and not a one time occurrence with our party...
