I am only giving 2 stars because of the view. That was excellent. Everything else was horrible. We came here on Christmas, without any reservations, got seated immediately. Which was good at first, but now I understand why the restaurant was only 1/3 full on Christmas. The food was terrible. I mean, really awful. Especially for the prices. My son had strip steak. $40. It was over half gristle and half inedible. His sides were so heavily salted, they were disgusting. (Yes I tasted them after he complained about how salty they were.) I ordered scallops. I have never done this before in an elegant restaurant, but I had to discreetly remove it from my mouth. It had a terrible ammonia taste. Yes, ammonia. Like bleach. I was really looking forward to the garlic flavored scallops that the server had described. I ate half of one of the 3 scallops that came with the meal, ($40), am praying I don’t get food poisoning. No clue why it tasted like that. The sides that came with my dish were also extremely heavily salted to the point of being inedible. I was going to say something- which I never do- but because it was Christmas, my husband didn’t want to cause a problem, so I didn’t. Also the service. When we first sat down, we got water right away, but then had to wait for the server. At one point, we went 24 minutes for our server to return. I only know the time because I received a text right when our server brought out bread, so I knew the last time she was there, and started looking at my phone when it seemed like forever since the server was there. And the restaurant was only 1/3 full. Where was she? And she definitely wasn’t the only server, as we saw others. For a restaurant of this cost, you would expect decent service, and at least minimally good food that isn’t loaded with a ton of salt to make up for lack of flavor. It was so disappointing. We decided to splurge on Christmas with a very elegant meal, and did not receive anything close. Most JW Marriott restaurants are very good. Not this one. Would give the food and service one star, but gave 2 stars because of the location and view. Btw our meal with drinks and one dessert for 4 people was $360. Glass of wine was $16. (Which I understand, it’s a rooftop restaurant in downtown Tampa). But still. Disappointing!! Do not waste several hundreds of dollars on...
Read moreI'm super appreciative of Chris, Vanessa, Anthony, and the entire staff at SiX! I was tasked with planning a last-minute Dirty 30 birthday party for 15 adults on the Friday night before Christmas. Trying to find a location for this party was about as difficult as you can imagine. Online portals rarely let you make reservations for parties over 6, and most semi-descent establishments here require a downpayment or deposit to host a party our size. I could barely get a real person on the phone at any of the other potential establishments I tried to call, and when I did, the responding staff were never very helpful. Sometimes borderline rude.
We went to the new rooftop bar, Beacon, to check it out and try and get information about potentially bringing our large group in for cocktails the evening after the party. When I tell you I have never felt more disregarded by a business I was trying to spend THIS much money at... (standard cocktail = $18, multiplied by 15 seasoned drinkers)
There are several reasons I will never go back to Beacon, but I'll just say their online reviews are true.
Anyway, as I was leaving Beacon, an empathetic patron in the elevator informed me there was another nice rooftop bar/restaurant in the same JW Marriott we were in, which also housed Beacon, but it was on the sixth floor...
Long story long, from the second I walked into SiX, I knew this was the perfect spot, for any celebration, but especially ours. There were super spacious outdoor lounging spaces for groups to casually gather, a classic dining room that offered delicious gourmet dishes, bartenders who knew how to make a good cocktail, and most importantly, employees who did everything in their power to make sure we had a special night.
There was not a single member of that staff who was not genuinely empathetic, helpful, accommodating, and kind, throughout the entire week-long ordeal that was planning this party. They truly saved the day for me, and a very special friend's 30th birthday party. Thank you, Chris, Anthony,...
Read moreI would like to give the stars from the great experience I thought I had but it's been one thing after another with this hotel and bar. For starters the hotel staff stole items from our bags when they were checked in with staff because our room wasn't ready. In light of not trying to make a big deal about less than $20. But then I go to the bar with my colleagues we had coconut drinks that cost $20 a piece. The drinks had no alcohol or very little. We called the waiter but it was a different one. He explained he would fix them. The original waiter was new, in training. But because I was sitting with others and the only one with a card on file my card was charged $150 for drinks and refills I didn't have. Our total should have been $63.45. Before leaving the hotel my colleagues and myself reported the issue and we were told by manager Chris and Christian that they would find the charge and reverse fees. It's been since July 15 and still no word from either manager! For this to be a 4-5 star hotel it was a horrible time except for the people we got to interact with outside of...
