In one word or two: Honesty & Transparency. I've used Storage Facilities for years, and every single one will try to fleece you. I'm a new customer with CubeSmart (one month in), and I was hoping they'd be differentāespecially since their main advertising angle is superior customer service. Not the case.
When I first inquired about the availability of a unit, the salesperson claimed I could use my own persona lock. I reserved a unit at their Temecula, CA. location. Next, when I talked to an actual worker at the site, she said that I couldn't use my own lock, citing a ānewā policy. I was disappointed, but since I had little time, I agreed to go with it and paid extra for the unnecessary lock. As we went through the billing items, she indicated that there would be a monthly insurance charge. I mentioned that I already had Renters insurance through AAAāwhich would cover the insurance portion. She said fineājust send her a copy of my policy.
A couple of weeks later (after I'd checked with AAA that CubeSmart was included in my policy), I called again so I could send them a copy of the policy. The gentleman that answered informed me that it's no longer their policy to accept outside insurance. He claimed that everyone had to pay the minimum additional insuranceāregardless !???!
If this isn't fleecingāwhat is? Am I paranoid, or is this sort of disingenuous behavior just rampant with...

We had an appointment for 12pm so we arrive and thereās a sign that says ābe back at 12:30ā so we wait in our car. 12:30 comes around and no oneās to be found. Itās now 1:00 and we see Jameel come out and change the time to 1:30 and we ask if we can come inside to get our code and lock. He said with an attitude āIām on my break, you can go to the other location if thatās a problemā then shuts the door on our face. Weāre already irritated after waiting an hour but we have no other choice but to wait. Itās finally 1:45 and he unlocked the door. He has the worst attitude and says how he doesnāt want to be here either. No one is forcing you to work here and frankly I donāt want to be here either dealing with someone who has a nasty attitude and is flat out rude. My husband and I were kind the whole time despite all of the trouble it was to just get our code. Jameel should not be customer facing anyone, not sure if he was having a bad day or what but that doesnāt mean you should take it out on others. Please reevaluate who you have running this place, it can ruin your company with...

The unit itself felt safe with a door containing a numerical code, followed with the indoor lock on the unit itself (self provided). I go into the unit and thereās a pretty big gap between the wall and the door, but I figured you probably pay for what you get. (I wasnāt able to check the unit out before purchasing) With the added lock I had decided that my things are probably safe. Two years go by, and I check my statements to notice that I am now about to make a $180 payment for rent monthly. Fine okay, totally understand with inflation, prices raising, but I can no longer afford something like this being how unsafe I felt leaving my things there. I cancel everything and go to vacate my space when I then notice that the outer door with the numerical code doesnāt even lock⦠Not sure for how long itās been, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Paying this much for the rent and not even having a safe and secure unit as advertised is so disappointing. I hope that this issue gets resolved because I couldnāt imagine paying premium prices for such a low quality...
