Shortly after my company switching insurance plans, I was the victim of a car running into me while I was crossing the street in a crosswalk. I selected a doctor within the Rancho Family Medical Group for the variety of local offices and good reputation from past reviews.
The pros: Scheduling was amazing. I called for a new patient appointment and was able to get seen within the hour, which I was definitely not expecting. Upon arrival, the staff was extremely kind and quick to get me in. I saw Jenine (sorry if I misspelled) and she was very helpful and assisted me with all of my questions and put referrals in to further my treatment.
The cons: A real shock to me was that in order to minimize any possible financial trouble on themselves, they refused to accept my insurance for my visit and instead made me pay $150.00 out of pocket to be seen despite the fact that they are within my insurance’s network.
Apparently, if you are a victim that has been hit by a vehicle such as myself, they have trouble getting the insurance companies to pay them sometimes. So instead of trying to have their financial department attempt to work things out with the insurance company, they put the burden on the victim.
I have to say, I personally felt that this company policy is extremely callous and puts additional financial and emotional strain on someone who is obviously already going through an extremely difficult time.
I have weeks or months ahead of me where I will not be able to go to work or simply walk without the help of crutches or wheelchair and the last thing I expected from a place that exists to help people was to feel victimized.
For the sake of the next victim that comes in, I hope they reassess this policy and possibly look into other options. If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of the insurance company, then maybe setup payment plans or a promise to pay later. I can say without a doubt that anyone in my situation would have preferred something that at least felt that you sympathized for these victims and wanted to help.
To be clear, the ONLY reason for the 2 star ranking is because of this policy. Everything else that I experienced was great and since the majority of people will not be using them under the same conditions, I still can truthfully...
Read moreHad to wait for over an hour for the doctors appointment with Dr. Rahman that I showed up early for. When I asked when the doctor would be in after waiting for 45, I was informed that she was with a patient that was late for their appointment ahead of me. RFMC had a late policy posted in the exam room stating if a patient was more than 15 minutes late they would be charged for the appointment and rescheduled. Nice to know they don't follow their own policies and don't actually value the time of patients who care to show up early.
Also, the walls of the exam rooms are VERY thin and I was able to hear the entire conversation of the appointment in the next room over. HIPAA and privacy is not a thing with complete strangers being able to hear the entire appointment.
When the doctor finally came in after waiting over an hour, I brought up a few concerns to which I was told would be addressed at the next appointment in a month for a well womens exam which I have had less than a year ago before I moved to California. Had the doctor asked or even read it in my medical records that I sent a month a head of time, she would have realized. I have quite an extensive medical history, but the doctor only asked a few questions and did not ask more beyond the absolute bare minimum. The level of care was incredibly low and I would not recommend this office for anyone.
I will admit I had quite an attitude, I was hangry from fasting because I assumed they'd want labs drawn, but I really think it was warranted. After the doctor was in for all of 7 minutes, the nurse came in with followup paperwork and orders. At this time I asked to speak with a manager and Dr. Rahman's manager came in to address my concerns. She just repeated that sometimes prior patients have allotted times and sometimes patients bring up concerns that take longer. I also brought up concerns about HIPAA and she said that because the patients name wasn't mentioned, it wasn't breaking HIPAA. Well, I don't think Nancy with the nausea would quite agree.
Needless to say, I will not be continuing care with a doctor and office who care...
Read moreI’m extremely unhappy with this medical group’s incompetence.
I had my initial appointment with Dr. Marjan Johnson, which went well. She said she would send my blood pressure medications to the pharmacy I put in my chart. But when I got there, I found out that she had instead sent the prescriptions to some random mail-order pharmacy that I have never heard of! That mail-order pharmacy had already billed my insurance, so my local pharmacy would not fill the prescriptions unless I paid out of pocket. I’m a traveling healthcare worker and I was out of state when the mail-order pharmacy sent the meds to my home. They sat in an outdoor metal mailbox for two weeks in the summer heat, so who knows if they still work.
Oh, and it gets better. Dr. Johnson also changed my one of my medication regimens AND added a new medication WITHOUT TELLING ME. I let her know in no uncertain terms that this was irresponsible of her as a physician. All I got was an apology from Dr. Johnson and a follow-up visit with the nurse practitioner Anisha Patel (that I had to pay for). NP Patel told me she would re-send the prescriptions to the local pharmacy with a note on what happened, but if they wouldn’t fill the prescription, I’d have to call my insurance company.
So basically to fix THEIR error, I have to do all the work. I’m done. Good luck to you if you choose their medical group. Hopefully you’ll have a better...
