Did you know that the purpose of going to an urgent care is for an assessment only? Well, that’s what I was told by Dara Roca, the manager of Kinder Pediatrics Urgent Care in Totowa, NJ. What’s the sense of naming your facility “urgent care” if you don’t plan on providing the care?
On Sunday, March 3rd, 2019 my daughter was playing with her daddy. He was taking her off his shoulders when she started to scream in pain. I knew this scream very well and we rushed her to urgent care for them to help us. I’m not sure if it was the doctor, or the busyness of a Sunday morning in the middle of winter, or maybe the desire to rack up our bill, but the events of that morning were disturbing. Dr. Alejandro Flores attended to us. After explaining our history with nursemaid’s elbow, he tried manipulating her elbow back into place, then told us we were good to go. We decided to wait since she wasn’t in any less pain. He came back about 10 minutes later and did the same thing. Was he not sure he did it the first time? After trying a second time, he gave my daughter an ice pop and told us she was probably just sore. “Take her home to rest and if it’s not any better later, feel free to come back for an X-ray but we will be closing early due to weather conditions.” So, we took her home, gave her some lunch and she fell asleep. After such a long morning, we didn’t want to wake her, so we let her sleep and told Kinder Pediatrics we’d bring her by tomorrow for an X-ray if she woke up in pain. They informed me there would only be an X-ray technician there from noon to 11pm. Of course, we kept her out of school and took the day off of work. We got there at 1 and still had to wait for them to call an X-ray tech to come in. Finally, the X-ray tech came and we had the results 15 minutes after it was completed. Surprisingly, it came back normal and the nurse practitioner, Anna Wolfson, came into the room, one hand still on the doorknob, to let us know that it was normal and recommended specialists for us to see. We tried getting an appointment that same day, but there was nothing available. We got an appointment the very next morning. Dr. Konigsberg came into the room, looked at my daughter’s arm, looked at the X-ray, and popped her elbow right back into place, easy as that. He even showed me how to do it myself being that this is very common in children her age and she will probably not grow out of this for another 2-3 years.
48 hours of pain that my daughter had to endure because Kinder Pediatrics couldn’t treat such a common injury. 2 unnecessary medical visits and 1 set of X-rays that will cost me a fortune and did nothing for the care and treatment of my 3 year old’s common injury. The intense worry it caused us to think there could be a fracture or sprain or something worse. 2 days off of work with no compensation. I’m glad my daughter is finally feeling better and can play using both hands, but to not feel a sense of guilt or regret or sense of failure for sending us home without actually treating the patient really worries me with this facility. There was a small apology and another ice pop when I went to the office to speak to a manager, Dara Roca. When I asked if something could be done with the cost of these visits or the X-rays, I was told, they’d call the billing office and get back to me. I still have yet to hear from them, but I have received the bills.
I was also given the recommendation from a pediatric orthopedic surgeon to visit PM Pediatrics in...
Read moreWorst experience ever! I just walked into this establishment at 8:45pm while their operating hours are until 10pm. Some anonymous woman in the front tells me she cannot accept my child because they are at capacity. You are turning away a sick child and you are not even closed! Then Dr. Erin comes out to tell me how aggressive I’m being simply because I asked for the woman’s name in the front who refused to give me her name and continuously ignored me. I find out the woman’s name is Evelyn only because Dr. Erin addressed her by name. How dare you tell me I’m being aggressive by asking for an employees name to make a complaint because you are turning away a sick child! I will NEVER come to this establishment again. Then the doctor goes on to tell me how Evelyn’s been working the front by herself all night, I don’t understand how this is a concern of mine. Never once did Evelyn apologize. I only got an apology from the doctor after she insulted me. They made me feel like I was wrong for bringing my child to an urgent care facility. I only was told how much the facility was going through i.e. them being short staffed, the four patients they had in the back and two in the waiting room. Not once did anyone mention well if your child has an emergency maybe the ER would be best at this point. Nothing, just all the issues they had for the day. Meanwhile my sick child is not being seen. I wish I could give this establishment negative stars. I’ve never had such a horrible experience anywhere else, urgent care, hospital, anywhere.
Update: I will not be discriminated against, your response is disgusting! The facility responds and further insults me implying that I was disruptive! Furthermore, I’ve already stated I was not aggressive whatsoever, I have a recording of the entire incident that can prove this establishment’s unprofessionalism. And since reviewing other reviews there seems to be a trend in the certain type of patients that are unhappy with your service. Seems like there’s a type of person you would consider “aggressive” without that person even opening their mouth. I wouldn’t be surprised if your five star ratings are artificial. This is not the first issue I’ve had coming here, the other issues just weren’t as serious as this one. It is not coincidental that I continuously have issues here. The only thing I did was ask several times for an employee’s name while that employee ignored me! That is not aggressive, disruptive or threatening! How disrespectful you all are! Your ignorant response was not needed. Again please keep in mind I do have a recording of the ENTIRE incident. Obviously including your unprofessional staff. Have the year...

Told my son dr she said yes tylenol and moltrin switch up every 4 hours and there is nothing for thrust mouth nothing they can do but wait it out have it all in text. My son suffered all week no sleeping just crying hard for a mother to watch her son being tortured and cant help. My 19 month old was going through bottles of tylenol and moltrin. So with that said i saw Dr Hoens at the urgent care cause i could not take it any longer she actually listened to me and his dad speak while listening i can see her monitoring nick as we talk. She look in his ear and right away mom he has a bad ear infection just like i was telling them at the ER. She also noticed my son drops his bottle and pacifer on floor alot that can cause most of his viruses . She so attentive my son has tubes in ear noticed the both was out and just sitting in the canals, and she took time to explain everything she suggests and why and what her diagnosis is and why.
