After months of our daughter wanting her ears pierced, but being too nervous, she finally worked up the courage today, and what an absolute disaster of an experience. Our piercer did not check that she picked the right earrings. So while she was nice and helped ease my daughter’s nerves very well, she pierced the first lobe and immediately said “oh, those weren’t the ones you picked out”. We weren’t even that upset at this point, my daughter thought the gold dots were cute and said she didn’t mind them (even though she picked out something sparkly). Our piercer said “oh no, we will switch them it’s no problem”! So she pierced the second ear with the correct jewelry, and started about removing the first incorrect earring. Then she loaded the piercing device again and I stopped her and expressed concern over piercing a second hole. She reassured me over and over that she was not making a second hole, just using the piercing device to gently push the new earring in to the existing hole. She swore up and down that she could feel the hole and it won’t make a new hole, and changing the jewelry by hand on a freshly pierced ear would be uncomfortable for my daughter. So foolishly, I trusted she knew what she was doing and low and behold, a brand new, VERY CROOKED hole was pierced. So crooked, that the post of the earring was sticking straight into my daughter’s neck. There would have been absolutely no way she could have comfortably kept an earring in. So now my daughter is in tears, and she explains that the gun “misfired” causing the piercing to be so crooked. Now we have no choice but to take out the second attempt, and she tired to place the jewelry back into the first attempted hole but was completely unable to get the earring to pass through. After months of working up courage, and researching what you think is a reputable place that’s better than a mall kiosk, we left with one earring and a sad girl (and pissed mom). We were told we could come back in as little as 2 days once those holes closed to re-pierce that ear.
The thing that upsets me the most is how adamant she was that it would be no problem to switch the jewelry. We weren’t upset at all that the first ear was done with the wrong jewelry, had she EXPLAINED that there were risks of not being able to get the jewelry switched out correctly, or having to use the piercing device again, I would have just said no, pierce them both with the “wrong” jewelry. It would have been no problem.
I ended up calling another local piercing shop to get their opinion on the situation, and they said that the jewelry should have never been attempted to be switched, and warned vehemently against re-piercing that ear until it was fully healed, at least 1 MONTH, not 2 days!
I understand mistakes happen, but I question if the people who work here are truly nurses. Nurses should be providing patients/clients with informed consent. She didn’t explain any risks or possible consequences to changing the jewelry. I feel like we were lied to when she said it could be switched “ no problem”, because obviously, it was a big problem for us tonight.
Will be going elsewhere to fix her ear...
Read moreI have three daughters, and we usually go to a piercing studio in West Allis, (that we love) but this time we decided to try Rowan’s as my daughter said it, “is staffed by licensed nurses”. I am always happy to support nurses. However, I was extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism and safety practices I saw at Rowan’s. The nurse was sitting at the front desk eating her food and walked over to us, with her mouth still full, to bring us to have my daughter’s ears pierced. There were other employees also at the front desk with their takeout soft drink cups all over the counter where you check out. Don’t you have a break room in the back room for your employees to eat and drink? I can tell you that this does not meet OSHA, Joint Commision and/or the health department standards. Even though I saw sink, I saw no hand washing. In nursing school, you are taught to wash your hand with soap and water before and after the use of gloves. As a fellow medical professional/nurse practitioner, I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed. This in not standard nursing care. We will definitely be going back to the piercing studio, that is not staffed by "certified nurses" but by trained professional who wash their hands and don’t eat and drink around medical procedures. I sincerely hope you can use this feedback to improve. I really expected more from a place who advertises it is staffed by nurses. I did take photos, but I will not post as I don't want to slander anyone, I just want you to use this feedback to improve your...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE. Go to a PROFESSIONAL PIERCER.
This company is great at marketing (the idea of being pierced by a medical professional), but a medical professional DOES NOT MEAN they know how to pierce ears.
I got my cartilage done in March with a needle on a whim (at the time I thought any piercing done with a needle should be fine) and I HAVE HAD A LUMP ON THE FRONT AND BACK OF MY PIERCING FOR MONTHS (and for reference I had my cartilage on my right ear pierced by a professional piercer and this did not happen). I decided to go back to my piercer where I got my nose done, and she notified me that the wrong size and type of jewelry was used for my piercing and that's why my ear was irritated.
Their JEWELRY IS NOT HYPOALLERGENIC (if you look on their website you can see that their jewelry is plated and they don't fully disclose the metals actually used).
Their CLEANING SOLUTION has unnecessary crap in it. For piercings you're supposed to just use saline spray, if you look at their ingredients it contains Sodium Hypochlorite and Phosphoric Acid (this is an acid-base combination to balance pH). You don't need that. SALINE IS STERILE (and it is just salt and water)
Sodium hypochlorite is AN ACTIVE INGREDIENT IN BLEACH whereas sodium chloride is table salt (Sodium chloride is what's meant to sterilize piercings)
Also, the people who work there are incredibly nice and caring. But at the end of the day this is not their profession and it is unfair to advertise this business as if they are well-educated in doing piercings, when...
