If you are not white donât come here -
Yesterday I had the absolute worse salon experience of my life.
I was made to feel judged, belittled, unmatching to the white standard of beauty and like my thick curly Hispanic hair was a dirty nest that was a burden to cut. The stylists and hair washers did not even bother to hide their disgust, outwardly whispering to each other while making begrudged faces and even looking at me with a questioning face waiting for me to approve their revulsion. It was as if they had never seen hair with curl or volume, and yet looking around the salon there were other people with curly hair that were being treated like normal human beings. The only difference is that I was the only non-white person in the room.
They kept calling for another stylist, Sebastian, who they repeatedly said may know âhow to handle this.â âThisâ being my natural hair, which somehow seemed to them like a wild animal that refused to be tamed. They also kept insisting in a patronizing way that they would need the Brazilian mask even though I have never needed one, on my own or in any salon. They were treating me so badly that I felt the need to take my mask off to show them that I am human.
While this was happening, another client who was sitting nearby commented âWow, she has such beautiful hair,â a comment that was in such great contrast to the way I was being treated and made to feel.
At the end of all this harassment, washing my hair and trimming the very bottom of it only took a few unburdened minutes. The rest of the time was taken with their racist drama. I refused to let them blow dry it because they were making such a big deal, planning to simultaneously dry both halves of my hair while subjecting me to unnecessary pain. Meanwhile, I blow dry my hair all the time at home and there is nothing unusual about the process. They continued to whisper to each other as I paid the $60 bill and then gave me a 50% discount for my next visit, as if they sensed my unhappiness and thought that would compensate for the toxicity they subjected me to.
To top it all off, my friend called them afterwards to ask if they were comfortable cutting thick, curly hair and they insisted that they were. In my countless times going to hair salons throughout Canada and various states in the U.S., I have NEVER been treated like this. It is unacceptable. The staff in this salon should not be allowed to touch...
Read moreDO NOT TRUST Tapestry Salon, Alexis and Alian to do the makeup for you and your bridal party on your wedding day! As the stepmother of the bride this was such a big day in my life. I spent two years preparing every last detail including my look. The right dress, shoes, jewelry, nails and the list goes on. I of course wanted to feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful on this special day! All that planning was ruined. I was literally in and out of the makeup chair in seven minutes!
The hair and makeup team came to the venue (big mistake! If I was sitting in front of a mirror maybe I could have been more aware of what she was doing and stopped it??) She did not ask me one question about the look I wanted, or the colors I typically wearânothing! Which is basically what she decided to do. After about five minutes she was doneâreally?? I take more time with my makeup to go to the supermarket. When I went to the mirror, I was SOOO disappointed. The no-makeup makeup look was not what I was hoping for. When I told her I looked âwashed outâ Alian, who was now standing over her shoulder in an obvious rush to leave to go back to the salon for their next appointment came over with a contour palette and literally just started brushing contour all over my entire face.
At this point I was panicked. It was terrible! I was an hour away from home and my own makeup kit. There was nothing I could do. I looked in the mirror and was speechless. Alian asked, âmore blush?â At this point I was afraid to let them do anything. As far as I know Alian the owner of the salon does hairânot makeup. I said I would fix it myself and just like that he said âokâ, and they were packing up and out the door. I was literally crying in the car on the way to the wedding wiping big brown blotches of contour off my nose, cheeks, and entire face. I donât know how much my daughter paid to have my makeup âprofessionallyâ done that day, but I do know I would pay at least ten times that much to be able to do it...
Read moreIf you donât want to read my whole review basically: DO NOT GO HERE FOR COLOR. PERIOD.
If I could rate this place zero stars I would. I went here awhile back after making an appointment two weeks in advance to get a coloring job. My stylist was someone that I had been going to for haircuts but had never had my hair dyed by her before. Her name was Cathy. She bleached my hair for FIVE HOURS to get it to blue when in reality she really only needed to bleach it the first time because it turned blonde. She was nitpicking getting all of the old color out of my hair which would be great if she didnât absolutely destroy it. Overall the appointment took seven hours to dye my hair blue when it should have only taken an hour at most. She could have bleached once maybe TWICE but not FIVE TIMES in one session. Any hairdresser should know better than to do that. If I knew what I know now, I would have never gone there. My hair sheds way more than it did before. We were finding blue hair all over the place and I still canât get the color out of my hair because she damaged it so badly to the point that it canât take color anymore.
Not only did she botch my hair, but she also charged me $270 to do this. Are you kidding? My stylist now charges $120. Absolutely ridiculous pricing to get your hair RUINED.
She also fried my sisterâs hair when she dyed it purple. DO NOT GO HERE FOR COLOR IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HAIR. Or at least donât go to Cathy. I havenât been here since. And I will...
