RACIAL PROFILING ā ļø Iām a second year student at Canisius University. I went shopping to FYE with my friends (all of us are Hispanic) The cashier didn't provide a receipt for my friend's purchase due to a technical issue with the machine, he just bought a small funko keychain. For my order he did give me a receipt but he was charging me for a bag so I told him that I didnāt need one. And I put the two things that I bought inside my backpack. Later, When we went out to shop at hot topic, two police officers came inside the store and told us to āgo out because they didnāt want people to look at us and cause a sceneā they put us outside of the store and asked us if we were at FYE and that people saw us put stuff in our bags. My friend told him that the cashier didnāt give him a receipt and he showed his paypal payment to him. As for me, the other police officer told me āso young lady, how old are you?ā and proceeded to ask for my ID, not even my receipt. I didnāt give him my ID, I just gave him the receipt and showed him the two things that I bought, when I was getting them out of my bagpack he said āis that what you stole?ā And I said, āI payed for them, is on the receipt, I didnāt ask for a bag because I didnāt need itā and he kept insisting that I stole something āanything else on that bag?ā. Then the FYE employee came, and my friend told her the same thing, that the cashier didnāt give him a receipt for his keychain because the machine had a malfunction and the lady said āthatās not what happened, is impossible that it gets stuck, I was thereā and my friend told her āok letās go back to the store thenā and she said āno, I will call my co workerā she called him, and he told her the truth, that the machine malfunctioned. The police officers questioned the employee about who had witnessed the alleged theft, but she couldn't provide any names. āso what did they steal?ā She went mute again and said āpeople saw you put stuff in your bagsā and the police checked my friends shopping bags from other stores and the employee saw that NOTHING WAS STOLEN. The police told her āso who saw them?ā She didnāt say anything and apologized for the scene she caused in front of Hot topic and the police did the same thing. Upon returning to hot topic, we felt uncomfortable because the employees were following us around and watching us. This ruined our shopping experience and whole trip. Even if the police said āthey didnāt want to cause a sceneā everybody outside of the store was stopping and looking at us. It was humiliating. I will never go back to this mall and to this FYE store. My friendās girlfriend said that when they were paying for the keychain, the employee that accused us, was staring at them weirdly. This white employee discriminated Hispanic people and students, and the police did too and will pick and choose to ask for age and ID. This experience has left us deeply disturbed and with a strong belief that we were racially profiled and discriminated against based on our ethnicity and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was deceived into signing up for a paid monthly subscription service in checkout. The employee checking me out immediately asked me if I wanted to save 10% on my purchase for free if I sign up for their membership card. No mention was made of a cost so I assumed its free as I was told. Next I was told to select magazines from a subscription service I didn't need? I asked if it was necessary to complete my purchase and the employee said "Yes, just choose three, they're FREE.ā
I chose three and was presented with several forms to sign which were extremely long winded and confusing to read, it turned out these were me signing my debit card information to their subscription service. As I was trying to read them the clerk asked twice if I was "ready to pay yet" as if he was trying to rush me past actually reading the forms and make me sign immediately. Unfortunately I fell for this and signed them. My receipts printed after I signed the forms and noticed the 10% discount had been applied as promised. Only after I received my receipts did I learn that I was now signed up for a free trial of two subscription services, one of which (mags.com) was never even mentioned to me at any point during the purchase. The receipt also disclosed that the form I had signed was an agreement to pay $11.99 per month for the FYE membership and an undisclosed amount for a mags.com subscription once the trial period had ended. I am upset that I learned this information not from the sales associate during my purchase but instead from my receipt after the purchase was already completed.
Yes, these subscriptions were initially free because they were trials but, the clerk never once mentioned that they would require me to pay a subscription fee later on. Additionally, I was lead to believe that the magazines came free with the FYE membership, in reality they are an entirely different subscription service that also costs money.
I feel as if I was played for a fool. I was pressured into providing my card information for two subscription services that I did not want by being mislead into believing that signing up for them was "free" and necessary to complete my purchase. If you ever shop here I highly recommend that you directly tell the sales associate that you DO NOT consent to being signed up for these subscriptions if you do not want them. Check your receipt to ensure they have not signed you to these subscriptions against your will either. Needless to say I will be cancelling the subscriptions I was tricked into providing my card information for. I am extremely disappointed to see a business using bait and switch tactics on their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis doesnt deserve the one star Im forced to give them. First, when we walk in the employees never acknowledged people were in the store. Secondly, I think this store needs to educate their employees on "False advertising" the backstage pass is advertised as FREE after 30 Days you HAVE to pay for it making it NOT free. It was advertised as a rewards card. Upon check out the clerk forceed my fiance to get this card. He literally would not let my fiance check out without the stupid card we stood there for over 30 minutes trying to check out. The man REFUSED. He told my fiance just cancel tomorrow. My fiance said no I dont want the card. He was strong armed into getting this thing and its gross. Third, I called today to cancel the card customer service tells me they can't cancel the card until next week because our information wouldnt be up. I call the store to speak with a manager who proceeded to argue with me. Im calling corporate and reporting the manager and...
