Five Below — Local services in Town of Hempstead

I’ve always shopped at this location but today I ran into a nasty manager. I think his name was Darrel. Tall, and skinny with braids. I hate to single out my own kind but he was so disgusting to me. He told me “don’t start the truck if you ain’t trying to drive?” What professionalism is this. I had an exchange/return. One with a receipt and one without. Any competent manger would try to make the process swift and simple. I simple asked if we can just put both items on a gift card so I can just use it toward my new purchase. Somewhere he continued to do the long way when there are 10 people in line and the store closes in 7 minutes. I shop here often. He got frustrated and told me I could go to another five below. I never raised my voice but we went back and forth on how I was just trying to make it simpler for him and the people waiting behind. After he stormed off for the SECOND time ? I had to ask the other manager across who was a female. Very sweet lady who handled my transaction in less than 3 minutes. It’s not that hard. The male manager definitely has growing up to do. Someone his age and with that amount of power obviously wants to work hard and not smart. Arguing with costumers who are spending 3 times the amount I’m returning. Get a grip. I wasn’t going to let him ruin my last errand for the day. Idk if I’ll be back to this location anytime soon. I’m scarred. He then left this in the counter when the lady manager was helping to then say THIS was me....

My elderly mother went to this location today to purchase some items for the local group home. After selecting a few things she went to the pos only to be the victim of extreme prejudice. The cashier lead Vanessa took her money ($100 bill) walked away from the register into a office without saying a word. After waiting over 5 mins my mother had to knock on the door of the office Vanessa was in to inquire about the transaction. Vanessa opened the door and abruptly exclaimed that she did not feel comfortable accepting the bill. My mother requested a manager when Vanessa said she was the store manager (which is untrue) she then requested a different manager when Vanessa proceeded to make a scene embarrassing my mother to the point she called me while on vacation crying. I reached out to the store today to speak with a amanger and again she presented herself as the store manager. When i request a corporate contact she nastily response what for . She immediately knew i was calling in reguards to my mom . She put the phone down without placing me on hold . I had to sit listening to her tell the entire staff the story b4 an actual member of Managment pick up the phone to assist me. This is unacceptable this young lady has no business working in customer service... i will never shop at any 5 below...

Tried to make a return with a receipt I got from self checkout the only type of check out they have the lady I delt with couldn’t help me because the receipt apparently had no barcode which I didn’t see so I was handed off to another employee who proceeded to tell me their machines don’t do that the receipt would have come out gritty if it had no barcode so they could not refund me so I was confused at the assumption I took the barcode off my receipt for 2 four $ items in attempt to clarify that this was not the case I ended up walking out based on the accusations then asked to speak to management who smelled like weed they told me that the items were not on the receipt and returned me the Receipt as well as the items. So I looked at the receipt lo and behold the items were the first two out of five! So had to have my wife go back in and show them after being told I couldn’t read it was horrible the accusations over 8$ not the money the principal being cursed at and spoken to like I’m slow NOT OK in front of a whole store and children...
