I would say this is one of if not my most favorite place to bowl in NYC.
I'll start with some downsides which might be deal breakers for some people: little to no phone service it's downstairs so if you have gear you'd have to go up and down the stairs the bathrooms are pretty old and not ideal
Still, I'd give this place a solid 5/5 because of 2 main reasons: The staff is super nice and of the 3 times I've been there so far, I've had exceptional customer service (which most bowling alleys do not have). The first time I went, they gave us league pricing even though we weren't part of a league (yet - joining one here soon since I found one that matched my schedule) which allowed us to bowl a lot for really cheap prices (in NYC at least). Another time I went they gave us a couple minutes of practice before our games which might not sound like a lot but it's a small gesture that goes a long way for people who are trying to bowl a bit more competitively with friends. The bowling experience was great. I wish the lanes were more oiled but compared to some other places I went to, on average the lanes are not as dry as most other places (Is there any way to pay to request the lanes be oiled before we play?). Still, the lanes are nice and the atmosphere is quiet and they always seem to have a set of lanes that aren't in the dark which is nice if you're a late night bowler. The best part is the games are extremely affordable, though it is cash only. The bathrooms/carpets might not always be clean but the lanes are nice and clean (I've been to too many alleys that have gross sticky lanes which makes it impossible to slide and those lanes are never good for my knees).
I call in fairly often to ask questions and am always greeted nicely and they answer my questions as best as they can. This place feels a bit old but my friends and I gravitate towards that so if that's also your vibe and the negatives aren't deal breakers, I'd...
Read moreI have driven past San Dee hundreds of times. I just never went inside. Today I rectified that mistake.
If you are looking for the most pristine...modern conditions and equipment...you won't find it here.
What you will find is an old - school "this is what it must've been like in the 1970s and 80s vibe. If you are of a certain age...you will thoroughly appreciate this time machine.
Walk down stairs and you will find 16 lanes of memories. Good memories when getting the highest score out of your friends would keep you happy for a week and a half.
The staff is nice and accomodating...there is a snack bar...a bar...some vending machines bowling shoes and a pool table. The scoreboard is modernized with animated scorekeeping...but thankfully...little else is changed...and the prices were very reasonable.
When you leave....you can still take your memories with you....but you can be happy that they will still be waiting for you when you return.
Five Stars San-Dee. Thank you for being...
Read moreHad an ok experience. First time going, and as I arrived to celebrate my daughter’s birthday with her friends, I got screamed at by a guy at the front desk. I was so embarrassed for trying to use a legit Groupon. Before coming I called to make sure I could come in with my group and the Groupon and was told it was ok. But the guy in the front was so rude. He then calmed down and allowed me to use my Groupon and said he would take the heat for me using a Groupon for my low key get together. I even offered to pay full price since I was so embarrassed. The only reason I came to this place was because a friend told me it was family friendly and that they welcomed Groupon. I figured it was a great idea and nice close place to come to celebrate. I do not think I will ever return here again, felt...
