The first time I ever went to a Once Upon A Child, I went to the one in Henrietta to sell clothing I had. I had about two to three bins full, and they took about a bin full, giving me the excuse that the clothes were not recent, when most of them were bought not even two months prior and most hadn't even been worn. My daughter never got that chance to wear them because she was born a bigger baby. Some of the other excuses I got were there were stains, wash wear, etc. Yes, I'll admit that some of them did, and that was my bad for not inspecting as well as I thought I had. I didn't really let that pursued my opinion of the place, and decided to give it a second chance. The second time I went, I did my buying based on how my experience was and figured they must be really strict about picking out clothes and didn't think to inspect the clothing I was buying as that should have been done when they came in. I got what I thought was a nice outfit but, turns out there was a huge tear and frayed part in the pants next to the button. I didn't see it because there was a shirt in the front, but was REALLY noticeable. I also bought an extra stroller because my daughter's father always seemed to have her stroller when I needed it, so it was just easier for me to buy a new one. Mind you, I never even ended up using the stroller because it was a "just in case I need it" thing. I have never heard good things abut the one in Henrietta, so today, I went to the one in Webster where I heard several people state that whatever Henrietta didn't take Webster would/did. This time I brought three bins, the stroller I had originally bought there, a bassinet, and a few other things. They only took 1/4 of one of their recycling bins of my stuff. Needless to say, I ended up back with three bins full of clothes, the stroller, AND the bassinet. They didn't take the stroller because they said there was staining on it. I NEVER USED IT! Not from the time I bought it from them to the present. I had it stored away in my house in a dry closet. The stain clearly didn't come from me. They didn't take the bassinet because they said there was staining on that as well; there's not, all it needed was to be washed. It's been in storage for two years, bound to get dust on it. And they choose to take a pair of sandals I had, yet the same identical pair, just a different color, they didn't. I'm 100% sure they did not go through all the bins, as most of the clothes were left in the exact same position in which I had placed them. Again, most of these clothes are only a few months old... and are already out of style? Or aren't recent? Needless to say, I will not go back and will never recommend that...
Read moreLet's start with the good. The store has a huge inventory. There's a big selection and a lot are the better brands like Gap, Gymboree, Naartjie, etc. Ok, that's it for the good. I have a lot of complaints about this store. First off, it is way too crowded. They are just shoving way too much in the store. The aisles are narrow, and it's difficult to get down them with other shoppers and their carts blocking the entire aisle. Further, the racks are overfilled big time. I have trouble getting the clothing on and off the rack it's that crammed. My arms are tired after trying to push the clothing apart to be able to see anything.
I've been to this store 4 times and you'd think I would have learned my lesson by now. Customer service is also something to be desired. I've read reviews and see where a manager is constantly replying saying customer service is their #1 priority, but I have a really hard time believing that. I have not once been greeted (and there are always plenty of employees!). I've never once been thanked for my purchases or told to have a nice day either. Heck, I've never even gotten a smile!! They are very unfriendly. And this is based on every single time I've been in the store. Furthermore, the used clothing is a bit expensive in my opinion. Gymboree shirts are $5.50 or more and dresses $8.50 or more, a sweatshirt with pants $10 or more. I can get brand new gymboree items for the same price if not less during their sales. A lot of the items I see look very used as well. I know they say they take clothes within the last 3 years, but I saw plenty of gymboree items from 2005 and 2007 today at their store, so I'm not sure about the consistency there.
I've never tried to sell back my clothing there, but based on what I read it's not worth my time.
I think I've given this store a chance. I really wanted to like it. I love a good deal, but definitely don't enjoy shopping here or think I get a great deal. I'll take my business elsewhere and...
Read moreI've been coming here for over 11 years now to sell & shop for my daughter, myself as I fit in kids sizes and my sisters 5 kids. The last few times I've been in there the vibe is totally different. Like they don't want to buy. There's always a new "rule" on the container it can be in. Well today we brought a tote and the lady said in the future if I can't lift it on the counter then we can't except it but I'll take it today." Now the last time I came they said no more than 2 small totes. I live in Hamlin now I'm not driving out here everyday for a week to sell clothes, wasting gas defeats the purpose right? We'll the owner came grabbed it and slung it of the little shelf thing and said ya thats way to heavy. It's not cause my 4'11" 90 pound self lifted it in my car by myself. My husband today rolled it in cause he has an arm injury and didn't want to hurt it carrying it. Anyways I said we'll I guess I can just take it to kid2kid then. And she slung the tote back up (pretty forcibly for it being too heavy") and ripped the paper out of my husband's hands and said ya take it to kid2kid cause that seems like a better idea. We'll what they don't realize is the bottom of that tote had 6 pair of brand new Tim's in the box never wore cause my daughter jumped 3 sizes in the blink of an eye, along with brand new pumas, sperry's, etc and a ton of never worn justice clothes cause my daughter jumped clothing sizes too. Meanwhile the whole time were standing there all the totes were on the ground next to the porters and they were pulling piles out and setting them on the counter sooooooooo what was the issue with the size of the tote? I used to work and kid2kid and like I said have shoped/sold at OUAC for 11 years, so I pack the clothes for easy sorting. That would have been their easiest, most profitable tote of the day. Now they permanently lost a customer. And I'm sure my sister won't go in there ever...
