The owner, Jeannine, has an obvious anger problem and is extremely condescending. The other staff that I dealt with are very nice, but that's ultimately irrelevant. I bought an engagement ring setting, and was never pleased with how Jeannine spoke to me, but let it go because this jeweler came highly recommended. Fast forward to a month later, I've proposed (she said yes!), but the ring is a little too big. I call Libutti, and since we live in Manhattan, I ask if the jeweler will be in after 5 on Thursday (when they are open later - until 7 - to make it easier for us to get out there) and available to size our ring while we wait. The person I spoke with said this would not be a problem. When we arrived on Thursday, earlier than I said we'd be there, the jeweler was on his way out. Jeannine told us we could leave the ring there overnight, but this wasn't an option for us, because of the value of the diamond, we prefer to wait while any work is being done to it. It's also extremely inconvenient because we live in Manhattan. But still, we hadn't really pushed back, we were just trying to understand how this internal miscommunication occurred, and the conversation was still pleasant, when Jeannine suddenly grabbed the ring, and took the jeweler aside for a private and seemingly aggressive conversation with him where he was clearly annoyed at having to stay late. We did not want him working on our ring under those conditions, so we pleaded with her to return the ring, but she ignored us, and in an instant, he was cutting into it. We told her we didn't want to resize it, but it was too late. He was already resizing it - without even knowing the correct size. She said he's bringing it down a 1/2 size, but that sounded like too much to us. The other staff rushed to calm my fiancée down, who was now mid-panic attack, and quickly figure out the appropriate size. We determined it needed to go down 1/4, not 1/2. That's what the jeweler ended up doing, but because he was upset and rushing, he left a mark on our beautiful Tacori ring where he resized it.
Throughout this whole ordeal, Jeannine was nasty to us, having what I can only describe as multiple outbursts of uncontrollable anger. One of which was directed at me when she had the nerve to tell me that the jeweler was doing ME a favor by staying late! I calmly told her, again, that's not what I was told on the phone, and that we had made an appointment, to which she replied by throwing her arms up in the air and yelling at me, as though any of this was my fault.
I'm still upset over this, as it just happened last night, but the gist of my recommendation is this: avoid this jeweler at all costs. There's no shortage of jewelers in the LI/NYC area, and so I would strongly recommend skipping this one. When you buy a piece of fine jewelry, it's not just about the initial transaction, but the longterm relationship (service, cleaning, inspection, etc.), so even if your first experience with Libutti is pleasant, I'm here to tell you that you can't count on them...
Read moreMy fiance and I were lucky to inherit two beautiful pieces of jewelry from his grandmother and great-grandmother, both of which are extremely sentimental to us. Wanting to update them so they were to my style and size, but not knowing any jewelers in the area, we found Libutti because of their great Yelp reviews. We couldn't have been any more pleased with the experience from top to bottom. They switched one stone to the other setting, resized it significantly (but in the correct fashion, such that the side stones were left unharmed and are safe and secure to this day), and even re-purposed the old setting's halo design into a round pendant to serve as a wedding day present from my future father-in-law.
Everyone at Libutti is knowledgeable, patient, quick with their work, honest, and fair with their pricing. In fact, you can watch the work on your pieces being done by Eddie, their bench jeweler who is a GENIUS, as he works just behind the jewelry counter in a glass-walled room. And, something even more rare, they seemed really invested in us and our total happiness with the process. We only had repair work done by Libutti so we didn't spend much money there, but from Maggie's appraisal of my new engagement ring, to Jeanine's creative custom pendant design using the old setting, to their help with getting our new engagement ring insured, we still felt like their most important customers.
I don't care if it's a far drive, I will always go to Libutti and know that it will be done right by...
Read moreReally it was perfect in every way possible. I went engagement ring shopping in the heart of the covid outbreak like mid June and it was hard to find open jewelry stores anywhere let alone appointments. I called Janine and she said can you come right now, luckily I only like about 5 minutes away so I shot right over.
I told her I was looking for an emerald cut diamond with a very ornate and detailed band, something fit for a queen I told her. I told her my budget was around 7k give or take and she said we can fit you in that no problem.
She ordered in some diamonds and the following weekend while my now fiancée was getting her hair done I snuck away to the jewelry store again and the diamonds and band were like nothing I had ever seen. She showed me 3 diamonds all emerald cut, one was 1 carat D color and excellent cut, the next 1.3 G color and excellent cut, the next 1.5 and H color. When she showed me the diamonds side by side it was a no brained and so easy to tell, I went with the D color excellent cut 1 carat emerald diamond into the verragio band I had picked out which has such ornate and unique features and so elegant it was stunning. What’s more is Janine totally worked on price with me, this diamond alone should have cost upwards of 8,000 alone and the band priced at 3500$ she basically gave me for free, after all was said and done including tax i paid 8,000 flat and it’s the ring of a lifetime, unbelievable and I will shop here as...
