Ok, so I've waited a while to go to Hatch as is normally busy and I don't have a contact there (being who I am, it's sometimes difficult to be standing around without being approached by fans... said as humbly as possible). I made it a point to visit and the wait was around 15 minutes, so we waited. Once seated, the server eventually came over and seemed to judge us right off the bat - perhaps long haired people with skull rings haven't been kind to her on the past, or hadn't tipped well? Regardless, I blew it off and asked for two coffees, asked if they were refillable and to please provide a milk for me and an oat milk for my wife. We ordered, we were bright water and then she then disappeared for about 20 minutes. I grabbed the attention of the manager and as I was about to ask for our coffee, finally the server appears out of thin air... so I let it go. She brings over the coffee, and of course - didn't bring oat milk. Now she registered that I asked for it earlier because she commented on it... I'm forgiving and understanding, so we let it go. She returned with the oat milk and went away again. The manager stopped over for a second time, and immediately - the server showed up out if thin air to make sure we were 'good'. The food came out and it was all pretty good. The Breakfast burrito was huge, the bowl was full and delicious, and the tots breakfast was filling as well. No complaints there at all. Towards the end of the meal, we were rushing a bit and wanted a little more coffee before leaving. The server shoved the payment machine in my face, watching to see what I'd do for a tip. It was uncomfortable because she certainly didn't deserve a good tip, but I always give one. I told her that I leave the tip in cash - I always try to leave a cash tip as it's better for the servers. So she walked away. I dropped 20% on the table and proceeded to relax and sip my coffee. This woman literally watched me put it down, walked over and reached across the WHOLE TABLE to grab the tip, then we watched her count it while walking away! So I was right from the very beginning. That was rude and is frowned upon. Honestly, it pissed me off - nobody should be treated like that, even if they can't afford the meal... little did she know she had who she has at the table. You'd think that the diamonds in the skull rings would have tipped her off a little? Not cool. That being said, it does not take away from the quality and tastiness of the food and the restaurant overall - just the comfort of the experience. I would certainly recommend trying them out, I would also give them another shot. Just suggest that they have an etiquette discussion with their staff as they never know who they'll have sitting at...
Read moreI came here on a Friday. The place looks nice, so I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn't great. It was so not great I actually felt compelled to write a review.
We waited a bit before being seated and our table was dirty. Crumbs on the seats and the table. The table was sorta of wiped, which meant it was wet, yet somehow still dirty. Our menu's were wet as they were laying in the cleaning fluid. They did dry the table later.
The host at the front and our waitress were nice, but service was slow. Your average diner serves food like three times faster. Which is odd since breakfast food doesn't take long to make. I don't know if it was disinterest/exhaustion of the wait staff or something up with the kitchen, but that's how it was.
The biggest problem was the food. It wasn't great to say the least. And I'll eat pretty much anything. It's really hard to mess up breakfast food and yet they somehow did.
We ordered the the Classic (three eggs with hash brown, sausage, toast), the country breakfast skillet (3 eggs scrambled with breakfast meats, topped with cheese), peanut butter pancake with a caramel latte and an iced cappuccino.
The Classic felt like they served two eggs not three, and they somehow made eggs taste bad and look sad. The style of hash brown they serve here is shaped like a hockey puck. The one we got wasn't crispy, but a bit mushy and stale tasting. Best thing on the plate was the buttered toast. I think frozen hashbrowns from your local super market, freshly fried, would've tasted better than what we got.
The breakfast skillet wasn't great either. You expect the skillet to be sizzling, with caramelized parts that are touching the skillet. The skillet was actually cool, as if the breakfast mix is precooked, refrigerated, scooped it into a skillet during service when they then melt cheese onto the cold mixture. It could also be that they made it hot and it just sat there for a while. Either way, it didn't taste great and was barely warm. The melted cheese was kind of solid. I gave up on eating it about halfway through.
The pancake tasted all right, but it was a single pancake for $15.
Our total after tax and tip was over $70. Worth mentioning is this is one of those places where the lowest default option for tip is 20% and it only goes up from there. Which would've been okay if we had a better experience.
Overall, my experience here wasn't great. I've had better tasting, warmer food from just about every diner i've ever been to versus this place. I don't know if maybe it was a fluke since this place has a ton of good reviews, but I wanted to add my two cents so people can be careful with their expectations when...
Read moreAfter experiencing a significant change in food quality over 3 distinct visits and hearing about some management changes, I've decided a review update is in order.
Food 1/5 The food quality has seriously deteriorated in my last few visits. Both my wife and I experienced repeat digestion issues after eating here. The eggs and pancakes had a distinctly greasy taste that suggested they're being cooked on a dirty grill. While the menu choices remain interesting and creative, the execution is now poorly done. We could only manage to eat about 25% of our meals before having to stop - the most appetizing item on our plates was honestly just the toast.
Service 5/5 Rhonda continues to be absolutely fantastic! Her service is attentive, friendly, and professional. She's clearly passionate about providing a great dining experience and it shows in every interaction.
Ambiance 4/5 The restaurant maintains its fun, happy atmosphere with cheery decor and an upbeat vibe. It's still a place that feels welcoming and energetic, which makes the food quality issues all the more disappointing. Music can be sporadic in volume. One song is just fine but then music abruptly gets very loud.
Cleanliness 4/5 The dining area and restrooms remain clean and well-maintained. No issues with the overall cleanliness of the establishment.
Parking/Accessibility 3/5 Street parking and a nearby lot are available, though finding a spot can sometimes be tricky, especially at peak times. The street parking requires paid meters.
Value 3/5 While the prices aren't unreasonable, the dramatic decline in food quality severely impacts the value proposition. You're paying fair prices for food that's simply not worth eating.
Overall 2/5 Since my last review, the food preparation has really taken a nosedive. Despite the excellent service from staff like Rhonda and the continued pleasant atmosphere, I cannot recommend Hatch until they address their serious kitchen issues. The fact that both my wife and I consistently had digestive problems after multiple visits is concerning and suggests systemic problems with food preparation or grill...
