One of my few happy places that doesn't involve being outdoors! Between this place and the Shabby Tabby, Sayville is a town for small businesses guaranteed to make you feel relaxed!
The owner is not only a huge intellect, but is also hilarious, genuine and self depreciating. He's taken a tiny space an made it vibrant, but still cozy and inviting at once. He always has such unique stories to tell and solid recommendations, the selection is honestly overwhelming at times! True crime, history, fiction, and rare biographies are all things I've gotten here, and the kid's section is enormous too! There's also a beautiful shelf of vintage books, where they are displayed beautifully and with the dignity they deserve. There are also great events like book signings, and they help out with so many local charities and businesses, it's inspiring. I like a good Barnes and Noble like every other book lover, but please support local bookshops like this one, especially when they're run by people doing so much good for their community. Tiny Raccoon is the epitome of a hidden gem, check it out for yourself! Popular or obscure, they probably have the book you want! Check it out and fall in love with it like I did, you'll find a great read and learn something new...
Read moreI strolled into this cute little shop on my lunch break today and I had such a nice experience. When I walked in the place smelled like books , which I mean I know is probably typical for a book store but it really set the mood for my experience. I was greeted warmly when I walked in and spent some time looking over the breadth of used books . While I looked around a couple was chatting with the owner , it seemed like they were regulars and possibly good friends , and made the place feel a little more at home . I poked through a really well curated selection of new books , of which more than a few caught my eye , eventually I picked out the book “Nebraska “ , which I’m really excited to read . I noticed there were a bunch of cool bookmarks and local accoutrements up front (local bands cassettes, a donation jar for book related charity , cute raccoon themed totes etc. ) I chatted very briefly with the very kind, warm man behind the counter about cool old editions of books and getting back into reading . I’m really glad I stopped by , and I hope you do too if you’ve read all this blathering . Wonderful little shop , I’ll...
Read moreVisited this past weekend with my family, girlfriend, and dog. Awesome place! I was pumped when I heard we were getting a used bookstore in Sayville. All of the used books were in really good condition and priced very well (you could get about 10x as many books here as you could for the same price at a Barnes and Noble). The inside looked awesome, and the shelves were stacked with an incredible selection of books of all kinds. Personally I’m into classic literature and radical non-fiction and could have browsed the place for hours. The selection was far superior to any Barnes and Noble I’d been too, especially if you’re looking for books on radical politics. The owner is super nice as well. Overall a great experience and I plan to visit...
