When you shop for furniture at the Macy's Clearance Center know not everything in the store is from the same "department" according to our salesman Monte Rosen. This is important to know because when Monte says "delivery cost for the bedroom set we were looking at is based on the number of items you buy BUT there is a max fee, so you can get as many pieces as you want delivered at the capped fee", there is more to it. When you purchase say, a bedroom set like I did, the mattress department is separate (even though it is in the same store) so there are separate delivery fees for that. I never figured the items purchased from the same store but from different "departments" would have separate delivery fees. When I questioned this after the purchase, Monte said - as if I should know what he knows - "I've been working here for 10 years and it's always been this way". So when I asked him exactly what the mattress delivery fees were he responded "I don't know that's not my department" to which I responded "so in 10 years no one has ever purchased a bedroom set AND mattress from you where you needed to find out this information?". As you might have guessed, he changed the topic not to have to answer the question. I also had another shady experience with Monte just prior to the purchase, which if my son and new daughter-in-law hadn't fallen in love with the set I would have, probably should have walked away then. My long winded point is Macy's employs shady tactics to nickel and dime you, which sales people like Monte are happy to hide behind while they play the shell game. Monte specifically has his own shady flair he adds to the mix. Avoid them...

I went in to purchase two Queen mattresses today because I am in the process of moving. As I am looking through the mattresses to make a selection, my toddler starts to get irritated and proceeds to scream. As I try to calm him down, he stops for a few heavenly seconds but then proceeds to cry again. I have a TODDLER. A TWO YEAR OLD. Who screams and laughs like any other child. A man behind the registers while ringing out a couple proceeds to yell at my son and tells us to leave the store because no one wants to hear a screaming child. I am already under pressure because I know it is uncomfortable for others to hear but as an employee who is supposed to show and give their best customer service, he made me feel embarassed. I proceeded to walk out upset with my child. I was so shocked that I didnāt even bother defending myself. I am a single mother and I have enough to deal with already. I was willing to spend my money here seeing that they had a few great deals but I am very upset. I feel humiliated, I feel extremely judged. I feel so hurt. How can you speak to someone like that? How are you comfortable belittling people? Once I came home, I called the store and spoke to the manager who did not share his name nor the employees. I explained the situation respectfully and all he proceeded to say was that he was going to speak to the employee in regards of the situation because it was incorrect and apologized. An apology and a ātalkā with your employee is absolutely not enough. I am beyond...

Wait for the one cashier on duty to check out a small item, 1:17. Observed as he took down my info on a pad, wrote what I was buying on a list, then went to the register and rang up my item. The other worker (office type) was assisting in getting a printer online, there was nothing wrong with the register, it was all about completing tasks normally done on the inventory system. The customer ahead of me had purchased multiple items and each had to be cross checked to see if it was available for purchase from sheets of printed lists. His order took more than 1:45 as he was at the counter when I first arrived, the person ahead of me in line left after 20min and I got processed in about :08. He did NOT need to ask for any of this info as I was taking the item and using my Macys card. He said this was a requirement. I went and interrupted 2x while waiting on line, first to ask if I could go to another register (no) and if I could have the office worker look up my item on the list to see if it was available to purchase (No, switching to a new method and he'd be ringing my order soonest -:45 min later..) At noon another cashier arrived and when I was done at 12:17 the line still hadn't moved. he was out tagging the previous customers items when she arrived. Whatever the problem, it seemed that having one cashier for a large department on Saturday morning with computers down and tech issues ~ needs...
