My family and I came here tonight to celebrate my niece. When we got there we were seated right away, given glasses of water. No menu…. That should of been our first clue that this experience was going to be the way that it was… After asking and receiving menus a waitress strolled by 20 mins later.. gave us some chips and salsa. She told us to order food and drinks because the food might be a while. Okay great, that happens sometimes. I tried ordering the guacamole appetizer and she proceeds to tell me no, they don’t have anymore avocados to make it. What kind of Mexican restaurant runs out of avocados?!? Anywho.. we order. We wait.. wait some more… my water glass was empty for a good 20 minutes.. I had to ask for a refill.. still no drinks. An hour after we ordered my sister got her flight of margaritas. We all still had to wait for our other drinks including my nieces and mom that had to wait for their caned sodas as well. Not sure why since they didn’t have to make that, but ok. Other tables that were seated after us got their drinks before us. Finally we get our drinks appetizers and food all together. Greatttt. My sister’s drink order was wrong my nieces food order was wrong. They correct it. I will say the food was actually good and flavorful. I was half way through my food when I see the waitress serving someone a side of guacamole!! I quickly ask why she told me they didn’t have anymore and she said oh. We have a little bit… oh great so only for special customers then? She felt bad I guess and brings me some on the house. I don’t understand what was going on there. The cherry on top was the bill! They charged 11$ more PER burrito than it says on their menu. If I hadn’t checked I would have overpaid by almost 50$. She corrected it right when I brought it to her attention but that was sketchy… All I know is they need to seriously retrain staff and maybe hire more staff for busy weekends because based on that experience alone I won’t be...
Read moreWe live in the area and like to do date night after the kids go to bed on Tuesday or Wednesday. This Tuesday we decide to check out the new casa de Catrina. We get out of the car and walk toward the door. Peering through the window, we examine the scene. There’s a few backup options if it looks sketchy. We see about 6 at the bar and 5 full tables of people under 40. Hmm, surprising, this area usually skews older than that. Wait, is that a DJ… and laser lights? We look at each other and decide to take the plunge.
Turns out, this place is awesome. Fun, lively atmosphere. Killer, fresh Mexican food. Friendly staff. Relatively low cost for the area. For some reason, Tuesday night has a live DJ and closing time of midnight, which is unheard of for this area. Usually, we are racing to get somewhere by 8:45 bc closing time is 9:30. My wife had 2 drinks and wanted to stay until close until I reminded her we both have to wake up at 6am.
A minor negative is that the food and drink service appeared to be slow for others. Our neighbors, a 40+ couple on their 3rd or 4th date and a confusing group of 4 women ages 9 to 30 who could have been sisters or some mother/daughters combo, all appeared to be seated for a while before us and their food was delayed. However, our service was great and appropriately timed so I cannot complain. Second minor issue was the music volume. The music was. so. loud. We were shouting across the table and only at the end did we realize that other couples switched to sitting next to each other so they could talk. Ultimately, it wasn’t a big problem for us since the music mix was our favorite current and classic Latino/reggaeton/acrobats and we talk to each other all the time.
All in all, this place was a very unexpected breadth of fresh air. Great music, tasty food, and excellent vibe. Crowd was young and skewed Latino. The waiter said Tuesday and Saturday are their DJ nights so we were lucky to catch them. We will...
