I've been playing guitar for over 30 years, and I have alway had difficulty finding a good, reliable guitar tech/luthier to set up new and existing instruments. It is especially important to me as my preferred tuning deviates from the standard and requires special attention to the neck, intonation, action, etc. I've been to many people through the decades, but I can say without a doubt that I have finally found the perfect person to set up/fix my beloved axes.
Ash, from All Music Inc., is hands down the best guitar tech/luthier I've ever encountered. After acting on a recommendation from a friend, it only took a few minutes of speaking with Ash to realize that he is an incredibly talented and seasoned professional who inspires the kind of confidence you need when leaving your guitar. My guitars are like my babies, and I knew my instrument would be in good hands when handed it over to Ash. In fact, though I came in on a busy Monday afternoon, he personally greeted me and took a look at my brand new Jackson that needed to be set up. It had a buzzing fret that was supremely annoying, and Ash dropped what he was doing to take the guitar into his workshop immediately. Five minutes later he came out with a diagnosis: the fret could not be banged in and needed work, which a new guitar shouldn't need. He could have fixed it, but it would have required more work than a simple setup. In the end, he saved me a great deal of frustration, as I was able to return the guitar and get a new one.
I brought the new one to Ash the next week and he set it up perfectly! The thing plays like a dream, with a beautifully straight neck, excellent intonation, and perfect action, even with my adjusted tuning. And what's more, Ash got it done in one day! I almost couldn't believe it when he called me about 24 hours after taking it in to inform me that the guitar was ready. He even took the time to speak with me on the phone to tell me some of the specifics about the setup.
In addition to his amazing skills, you will not find a friendlier, more sincere person who genuinely loves working on (and playing) guitars, as well as talking about them. It is a pure pleasure to chat with him and to glean knowledge from his deep expertise, and again, it is amazing to me that he took time out of his day (more than once) to answer some questions and address my concerns. Every time I speak with Ash I feel more educated about guitars, and I always leave the conversation having picked up a nugget of guitar wisdom that helps me know my instrument better.
Lastly, the store itself is a hidden gem! It is a deceptively large space that is clean, cozy, comfortable, welcoming, well-organized, and pretty much a guitar-lover's paradise. I feel I could spend days walking around checking out equipment. Everyone I met there was super-nice and went out of his way to be accommodating. Guy, who greeted me at the counter and also took my initial phone call, is extremely friendly and deeply knowledgable on all things musical. Patrick is also great: it was pouring when I picked up my guitar, and he very carefully wrapped my case in plastic bags so I could safely carry it out to the car. I cannot speak highly enough of my experiences with the staff of All Music, and I look forward to shopping there and bringing my guitars in for years to come.
In short, if you have a guitar that needs a set-up or any kind of repair, look no further than Ash at All Music. He is the absolute best at what he does, and I would not leave my guitar with...
Read moreI brought in a ukulele in for a repair of the neck to All Music. I was greeted immediately and the ukulele was brought back to the repair area for an estimate of the work that needed to be done. The ukulele would be ready for pickup in two days which I thought was great. I received a call later that day to address another issue with it and a recommendation to file down the sharp ends of the frets. I okayed the further work which was a good pickup on their part. I picked it up this morning and once again was greeted by a different person who was so nice and kind to me. He immediately retrieved the ukulele, tuned it, played it and offered it for my inspection. They did an awesome job. The ukulele is better now than it was when I first bought it for my grandson. This is the second time I have used them for a repair. All Music is such a nice experience whether you are looking for to purchase, to have a repair done or just looking around. The staff is attentive and pleasant.
April 2023….I have since returned to purchase a ukulele for my grandchild. As usual, I was greeted and offered help with my selection. It is always a delightful experience...
Read moreI brought one of my dad's old acoustic guitars into All Music shortly after he suddenly passed away. Mike V greeted me and I told him I was looking to get some trade in value towards an acoustic guitar more styled for my playing. He's a New Yorker, I'm a Philly guy. We immediately bonded over some guitar playing, good humor, and story telling. He gave me plenty of room and time in the acoustic room, and gave me some great insight regarding the different instruments. He offered me a generous deal, and helped me out every step of the way towards my new guitar.
When I came back to pick it up a few days later (one of the great techs at AMI installed a pickup), the guys at AMI happily accepted a donation of a bunch of my dad's music gear, making the general transition much easier. Mike threw in some strings, T shirts, and a Martin hat. I absolutely recommend All Music INC for any music shop needs on Long Island. Great people who give you the personal kind of treatment and knowledge you won't find at the box...
