October 23 I experienced extremely severe lower back pain. At 3 pm the pain was so intense I went to the Emergency Room at ELIH. The check in staff were open and friendly and quickly completed my admission papers. I was turned over to the ER nurse, Angela who took history and vitals. Quite efficiently and with compassion towards my pain. Christopher Edelstein was in charge of ER desk and listened intently and informed me of the possibile conditions. He immediately ordered a technician to perform a CT scan of my body. Knowing my family and medical history of aortic aneurysms he ordered further testing. The discomfort from the procedure was apparent to the Tech and he tried his best to comfort me. Christopher then ordered ultra sound testing. Laura Nagida performed a series of ultra sound tests which required considerable time. All thru these procedures Laura was very very patient and understood the pain I was experiencing. Her professionalism truly showed off her great ability to keep a pained patient comfortable. start to finish I want to thank all the ER staff with their technicians. Fortunately the condition did not require overnight stay at the hospital....
Read moreWent to the ER for a bee sting. In terms of communication, it felt like they were quick to assume, lacked empathy, and at times were gaslighting.
One of the women providing care couldn’t find the bee sting and brought this up several times, even though my husband found it within seconds and I woke up this morning and it’s huge and swollen.
Since it seemed to me like they kept attributing my fainting to my epipen, and I insisted I had been stung and had symptoms of faintness beforehand, I was told by the nurse to “hear her words” in a stern tone.
Lastly we were condescendingly told that we were so nervous about what happened because my husband and I are expecting our first child, literally being told “oh so thats it”. No. I was worried about my life at the time, not my 9 week pregnancy, and I was not thinking “for two” as I was told or in fact “panicking”. I lost my vision and was scared for myself.
Really bad experience. Please be kind and listen better. And just because someone is pregnant, it doesn’t mean they only think in terms of that...
Read moreMy Mom had a wonderful experience at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island hospital! The care she received was exceptional! We were so impressed with how quick the response time was by the staff when the call button was pushed. The staff at every level was kind, caring, patient and professional. They went out of their way to make my Mom’s extended visit comfortable. Mom appreciated some of the staff’s humor and detailed explanations. My mother is legally blind and the staff went out of their way to help guide her with meals and walks with lots of detailed verbal cues. As you can see, Mom made the best of her stay ringing in the New year on 2North. Some of the staff that we would like to give a shout out to but not limited to are: Andrew RN Rose-RN Jen-Clerk Alicia-PA Sue-nurse Lori-Nurse Mary Ann Pedro-Aide Stacey-Case Worker Mom and I are grateful for her care and speedy recovery and wish everyone a happy and...
