A Hidden Gem in Greenport: Zerdem Mediterranean Restaurant is a Must-Visit
If you’re craving authentic Mediterranean flavors without hopping on a plane, Zerdem in Greenport, Long Island, is your next culinary destination. This charming restaurant doesn’t just serve food—it serves an experience that feels like coming home.
From the moment you walk through Zerdem’s inviting entrance, you’re transported into a warm, rustic Mediterranean haven. The ambiance is elegant yet cozy, reminiscent of a traditional Mediterranean home where hospitality is just as important as the meal itself.
The menu is a celebration of flavor, balance, and authenticity. We started with a trio of appetizers that set the tone for an exceptional meal: the Muhammara, rich and smoky with just the right touch of spice; traditional guacamole, creamy and vibrant; and zucchini chips with Tzatziki sauce—crispy, addictive, and an ideal prelude to the courses ahead.
But the star of the starters was the Fattoush salad. Bursting with freshness, the ingredients tasted like they were picked from a backyard garden moments before serving. Lightly dressed and perfectly seasoned, it reminded us what a true Mediterranean salad should be—simple, refreshing, and satisfying.
The entrées took things to the next level. The beef shashlik was tender and seasoned to perfection. The grilled salmon, paired with truffle fries, struck a beautiful balance between comfort and refinement. The Pacific halibut was a standout—flaky, flavorful, and delicately seasoned, each bite revealing layers of thoughtful preparation. And for red meat lovers, the filet mignon and lamb chops (both cooked medium) were absolute showstoppers—juicy, tender, and bursting with bold, rich flavor.
Beyond the food, Zerdem’s hospitality made our experience unforgettable. Michael, the host, was welcoming and attentive, making us feel like long-time friends rather than first-time guests. Our server Gabe was equally impressive—knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to ensure we enjoyed every bite.
Zerdem isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a love letter to Mediterranean cuisine and hospitality. Whether you’re local to Long Island or planning a trip out east, make sure Zerdem is on your list. It’s the kind of place you’ll be talking about long after the meal is over—and planning your next visit before you’ve even...
Read moreWe had one of the nicest meals, on all fronts, we’ve ever had - from the moment we entered to the moment we left, we were treated so hospitably by the entire team at Zerdem.
My fiancé and I were looking for a dog friendly spot to eat in town, and found Zerdem. A lady who knew many of the locals was so inviting and got us settled at a table of our choice on the patio. Staff came out to turn on a heat lamp and move it in position right next to us. Someone even brought out a water bowl for our dog!
The menu is comprehensive for all dietary needs while not being overwhelming. I was able to enjoy some of my favorite Turkish / Mediterranean dishes - Muhammara, fattoush, grilled octopus - while also being exposed to new things as well - carrot tarotar dip, Turkish branzino filet with veggies. The grilled octopus is a MUST order, and the spreads sampler is really good - especially the spiced pita chips that come with it. The dessert was a new one, a Dubai chocolate pie, that was awesome. Super fresh, great texture, and presented beautifully.
The servings are very generous, and we had a good amount of leftovers to enjoy the next day.
Ernesto took lovely care of us from start to finish, providing recommendations, checking in with us regularly while not being overbearing, bringing us fresh plates and cutlery for every course. The manager was also really warm and friendly and made sure we were having a great meal. For how relaxed Orient and the overall vibe at Zerdem is, the service was both warm and detail oriented in a way you don’t really get at these kind of spots.
It actually reminded me of the service I’ve received when visiting Turkey and Dubai, but out here!
Overall, if you have to try one restaurant while visiting the North Fork, Zerdem is the best - and we’ve tried many over the years. I hope their business continues to grow...

The service was impeccable. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to ensure that our dining experience was exceptional. Whether you are a seasoned foodie or new to Mediterranean cuisine, they will you through the menu with genuine enthusiasm and expertise.
And the food—oh, the food! Each dish was a traditional masterpiece, bursting with vibrant flavors and fresh ingredients. Every bite transported us to the sunny shores of the Mediterranean. The Chef (who was a pleasure to meet) clearly takes pride in his craft, and shows in every meticulously prepared plate.
While the restaurant is still awaiting its liquor license this minor setback should not deter anyone from experiencing this culinary treasure. The absence of alcohol is barely noticeable when you’re immersed in such an extraordinary dining experience. The focus remains firmly on the food, and rightly so. Simply enjoy a drink or two at any other local establishment prior to your visit; that is what we did.
In summary, ZErdem is a must-visit. Its combination of outstanding service, exquisite food, and charming ambiance sets a new standard for dining in Greenport. Despite the temporary absence of a liquor license, ZErdem is on a clear path to success. We will be...
