We went to La Z Boy (Middletown NY Store) with the intention of purchasing a living room set and did end up purchasing one for a house yet to be built. We knew this would be difficult and were excited to meet with the Designer Lara. She immensely helped us based off of our plans and in fact had the sale all by her self - what she came up with fit the space perfectly. She is the only reason we even purchased anything because... well... We also worked with "Don" who was the floor sales person.
If you end up walking into the store and working with "Don", I'd quite frankly just do a 180 and walk right back out the store. So why did we have a problem with Don and why is this review 1 star? Well, we're nearly a year into COVID-19 pandemic and Don couldn't show us the respect and decency to stay any distance from us, in fact, at one point he leaned within a foot of me and my fiancée's faces. Second, he straight up LIED to us about the fact we could return a custom ordered piece with no "penalty" - we later confirmed this was a lie with the sales manager while checking out. Third - while discussing numbers, I read what he had written down on a pad (not hard it was in bright red marker) and listened to the numbers he said out loud and they were COMPLETELY different. He would say higher numbers to make it seem like we were getting a better "deal". When I asked how much tax would be on the sale, he just said a low number not bothering to even check it with a calculator. So I opened my phone and began to do the sales tax on my own since he was literally just making it up - I knew the number he gave was wrong just doing the math in my head. Finally, whenever my fiancée would ask a question, he would go off on some wild tangent that did not answer the question she asked, multiple times I had to cut him off to tell him that was not what she was asking. He also made us feel uncomfortable when he started to flirt with the designer by saying "If I wasn't married for 47 years I would have her number" while talking to us and the designer. It was very ironic considering when I looked at Don's ring finger there was no ring at all. So what am I getting at? If you work with him, and don't do your 180 to go some place else to purchase the furniture, and want to know if he's lying, just see if his mouth is open and his lips are moving.
Let me conclude this by saying this review is solely impacted by Don. We almost walked out of the store because of him regardless of how much we loved the furniture but ultimately ended up purchasing what was "designed" for us because we loved it - and even still I almost regret making the purchase because of how disrespectful he was towards us.
This shouldn't be a reflection of all employee's of this chain, but we had recently purchased a custom wood dining table from a locale store which was nearly double what we spent at La Z Boy and we didn't deal with any of this non-sense - truth be told if we weren't buying so many appliances and pieces of furniture I'd have spent the extra 4 or 5 grand to get the living room set custom made from them too just to forgo giving Don his commission check. Be very careful when dealing with their sales staff, it would not surprise me if there are some other...
Read moreGreat quality furniture. Low pressure sales approach that considers what the customer wants and what best suits their needs. A ton of variety in fabrics and finishes. Great fabric protection option that makes upholstery nearly impervious to stains. We happened to catch a sale and ended up with a really good price as well. La-z-boy generally has comparable pricing (depending on what you are looking for) to other furniture stores (Ashley, Raymour & Flanagan, Basset, etc.), however when you compare the quality, the options, and the overall buying experience, La-z-boy is the best value.
We have a La-z-boy sectional that is 10 years old and still looks and feels brand new. Conversely when we moved into our house 6 years ago, we had bought two sofas from another store that were marginally less expensive and suited our needs at the time. These sofas did not hold up well in either aesthetics or comfort. The direct in home comparison between La-z-boy furniture and furniture available from other stores prompted our return to La-Z-Boy.
To mention the sales approach again, there was absolutely zero pressure. What we got was honest information and evaluation of what would best suit our house and needs. The freedom to look around and consider different options without any sales pressure was different from experiences we have had in other stores, and very much appreciated. We have absolutely no buyer’s remorse nor was there any haggling (ex: “let me see if we can knock the tax off if you are going to buy today” or insistence to “buy now, upgrade, go for the leather” or any other such nonsense that has happened on other furniture shopping trips (I friggin hate that BS by the way. So annoying.). We were totally relaxed, had a chance to talk and consider our decision, got stuff we really loved, and left completely happy with the...
Read moreOur recent experience at the Middletown Lazy-Boy store certainly deserves a 5-star rating (and we would give them an even higher rating, if we could.) Everything about our interaction with this location made us feel like very valued customers. I contacted the store in order to purchase a sofa and loveseat for my 92 year old mother, who did not wish to purchase something strictly online (as she preferred to see the furniture in person), yet due to her age, could only spend a limited amount of time in the actual store. Our positive experience began with my initial phone conversation with Harry, the store manager. He made the transaction as easy as possible for us. He was very helpful, kind, attentive and patient (while never making us feel pressured or obligated in any way). In addition, he informed us of several current discounts we were not even aware of. After an afternoon of trying to select “the right fabric” in his store, he suggested a complimentary home visit from the store designer, so we could see the swatches in our own lighting and home decor. That turned out to be immensely helpful. The store designer, Amber, came over the very next morning with all the swatches we were interested in. She was very warm, friendly and patient as she helped us narrow down the options. She was extremely helpful in choosing the fabric that was just right for our needs. Therefore, when we returned to the store later that day to make our purchase, we felt very confident in our final selection and the process went as quickly and smoothly as possible. We couldn’t have been happier with the interactions with this sales team. We are very content with our decisions and are now eagerly awaiting the delivery of...
