A few months ago, my mother had two items made at Troy Jewelers as a wedding gift. One item was a small bangle; my mother provided the material (22k/24k gold) for the bangle to be made from. The shop charged $500/$600 for the labor of the bangle. The second item was a customized necklace with a pendant; the shop charged $600 (an egregious price for the low quality of material). The bangle had a significant amount of scratches, imperfections, and was not made well. The necklace was made with a very thin and cheap gold cable chain, the pendant was smaller than the size of a nickel, engraved with two characters, and extremely thin. The engraving on the pendant was done poorly and looked sloppy. The owner promised my mother that if the necklace/pendant did not turn out how she wanted, she would NOT need to purchase it. When my mother picked up the items, she clearly expressed she did not like the necklace/pendant and did not want to purchase it. The owner insisted and pressured my mother to purchase it and promised my mother that if the recipient of the gift did not like it, she could bring it back and receive a FULL refund.
The recipient of the gift did not like the bangle or the necklace/pendant. My mother returned to the store to return the necklace/pendant. The owner was hostile and begrudgingly refunded my mother the $600, but did NOT refund the tax. The fact that my mother was pressured to purchase something she did NOT want and was NOT given a FULL refund she was promised is dishonest and unethical business practice.
A few years ago, I purchased a customized necklace from this establishment. I thought they did an okay job, but not great. I paid for a 16” box chain necklace and had a few inches cut off. I did not know until after purchasing it that it was normal practice to be given what was cut off (since I paid for 16” and had a couple inches cut off). The store kept the couple inches that were cut off and never offered it to me.
When my mother first notified me that she was planning on going to Troy Jewelers, I warned her that she would most likely be taken advantage of and overcharged due to being an immigrant minority; I strongly recommended her not to use their services. Unfortunately, she did not listen to my advice. The whole ordeal was a disappointed and she felt taken advantage of. I strongly believe if someone else purchased the same products/services, they would not have been charged nearly as much as my mother was OR treated the way she was. The owners claim to be Christian, but do not respect, keep their word, or treat customers fairly which is unfortunate.
Added review after store response:
"That's why you came back with your mother to make pendant for your sister that lives out of state."
I do NOT live in Michigan and have not lived there for 12 years. I live thousands of miles away in a different state... I have NOT stepped foot in your establishment in over 4 years. Let's not make false statements about me visiting your establishment.
"I Provided a $600 FULL REFUND. (Almost all Jewelers never give a refund on custom-made piece.)"
You refunded everything BUT the taxes. More than happy to provide a copy of the refund received. My mother did NOT like the piece BEFORE she brought it to my sister, which is why she said she did NOT want to purchase it. Out of financial gain, you pressured her to take it and PROMISED a full refund would be given if my sister did NOT like it. Again, let's not make false statements.
"This matter was a year ago, not few months ago. I think you are mistaking and confused about the whole issue."
This pendant was a gift for my sister's wedding which was in June 2024. It is currently February 2025 so yes, it was indeed a few months ago. It seems like you are the confused one. If you checked your receipts you would know you are incorrect.
It is a shame that you feel the need to make many dishonest statements to justify your unethical actions.

Read moreAllow me to elaborate on my experience for a watch battery replacement.
After waiting to speak to someone, I was told that it would take 20 minutes of work to replace the battery of my seiko watch because it was "complex". I was informed it may no longer be water resistant which I can understand since they are unable to pressure test the watch. While Tony was on the phone he was not only able to change the battery in 3 minutes but he succeeded in putting two scratches on the back which I later noticed. Not a big deal because it isn't exactly a high end watch but that shouldn't have happened. Then he told me the coupon he published only covers, "some" watches - this isn't exactly a Rolex, it's a seiko. Even so, I agreed to pay him and proceeded to hand him my credit card to which he smiled and asked if I had cash to add insult to injury. Take what you will away from this - but from my positive experience with their company in the past on big beaver to now, I think I would have been better off going to...
Read moreI shopped around all over metro-detroit to find our wedding bands!!!The cathedral style of my engagement ring made it difficult to find a matching band. I also was not impressed with the men's options provided at many stores. I even ordered a few rings from blue nile as well. after a trip to somerset mall saw that troy jewelers was a jewelry store nearby. Tony assisted us from the start to look at men's wedding bands as I had lost hope in finding a wedding band for myself. After showing him the ring, he goes, well I can make a band that sits as high as your ring! I was very anxious to take such a big risk especially since we had just a week away from our destination wedding. Under a short period, Tony delivered a beautiful wedding band. We purchased earrings and a bracelet as well. You cannot beat the quality of work, service and price from Troy Jewelers. Look forward to going back...
