I have been a regular customer of the Bridgeport Container Store since they opened. It's been a good source of home storage items, travel accessories, my favorite socks, cleaning supplies, closet, pantry, office and kitchenware. One of my favorite finds from there has been a handy little motion light called "Light It". I have purchased, at least, seven of them from this store as I keep finding more places to put them. Recently, I had one fail to charge with the enclosed usb charging cord. The light was relatively new and the receiving end where the cord plugs into the unit was loose and misaligned so, the cord wouldn't fully push into place. I took it back to the store, today, to get the unit replaced. The cashier told me it had been more than 120 days and she couldn't find my purchase in their system. I was really surprised because I'm a POP member and thought they would have a record of my purchase in their system. I didn't save the receipt or the packaging because, why would I? I didn't expect I would need it. She didn't seem to care that the product failed and wouldn't take a charge. She didn't offer to replace it, which I expected and would have greatly appreciated. She didn't even seem to care or make an effort. It's not like there was a long line of people waiting. It wasn't busy at the register and nobody was behind me in line. Disappointed, I put the light on the counter and walked out of the store. I told her it was of no use to me, as an ornament. Maybe she was a new employee with a lot to learn! I used to work in retail and can say, by experience, that's not how you keep the doors open. I've read such good things about that store that I thought their customer service would have been much better than that. Maybe, I should have asked to speak to a manager or someone else? Anyway, it put a dark cloud on my opinion of The Container Store. They could have kept me coming back, shopping for years to come. Bridgeport is my "go to" place to shop. Now, If they want me back as a customer, they can contact me and make it right. I'm in their system. Otherwise, I can find whatever I need on Amazon Prime and not waste my...
Read moreThis review is focused on the custom closet experience — which I do not recommend. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere.
I ordered a closet system for my child in September 2024. While most of the order arrived promptly, we were informed that the drawer fronts were on backorder.
From that point until March 2025, I had to call The Container Store at least 30 times to get updates. I spoke with numerous associates and managers — some said the parts were in stock, others gave shipping dates, and a few claimed the items were already on the way. Despite all that, the drawer fronts never arrived.
Ultimately, it became clear that our order had simply been forgotten. Even once the items were back in stock, the company didn’t ship them until I escalated the issue through corporate. Had I not pushed, I genuinely don’t believe the order would have ever been completed.
To make matters worse, the finished closet system feels cheaply made — and this was their premium product. Considering the poor customer service and fulfillment issues, I strongly urge others to look elsewhere.
I spent far too much time (and money) on this process. Don't make the same mistake I did!
For context: this is only the second Google review I’ve ever written. I’m doing it because I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did — and end up with a subpar product after months of...
Read moreAfter many years of buying Elfa closets from their Houston store (and loving every bit of it) we put in 2 large Elfa closet orders at the Bridgeport store. Unfortunately, they had a rare mixup at their DC where shipments got sent to the wrong store, which required an escalation to district management to resolve. (The local store management wasn't prepared for something like this to happen.)
Tracy, the district manager, went well above and beyond expectations in working to coordinate the resolution between corporate and the Bridgeport store, and they really went over-the-top to address my immediate needs during the delay. Occasionally, mistakes are going to happen, but how a store handles it makes all the difference in the world. TCS cares about their customers.
If you're thinking about an Elfa closet, I can tell you this. We had an Elfa master closet in Houston for 2 years, then we sold our place and moved to an apartment for several years. In the apartment, about once a week we lamented how much we missed our Elfa closet and it's extremely efficient use of space. We just bought a house in Oregon, and the first project we did was to rip out the old built-in shelves and replace...
