As someone with 6 years in the service industry, both serving and in the kitchen, I am reluctant to write negative reviews, as there are so many moving parts to dinner service. However, in terms of both execution and best practices, Sinju dropped the ball in every way tonight. Our server (who neglected to give me his name), was hurried and unfriendly. He only stopped to ask how we were once, despite ordering multiple courses and drinks, and didn't ask why we asked for the check immediately after our food was delivered, with nothing eaten. As a server, I would have immediately asked why my guests hadn't touched their plates, instead of stopping for 30 seconds max to whisk them away. I was given cucumbers 15 minutes before my main course, with no instruction as to if they were an appetizer, palate cleanser, or side. For a $20 a plate restaurant with $13 rolls, I would feel negligent as a server to not explain meal components to guests obviously dressed for date night. Our Spanish coffees were not only expensive, but weak and very unbalanced. I could taste no rum, only aggressive amounts of sugar and Grand Marnier. Our sushi roll was the size and quality of a roll half the price at our local track sushi spot. My Udon had far oversalted broth, and the tempura and my boyfriend's gyoza were both incredibly doughy (hence the early check our server did not ask about.) Overall, it seemed like a restaurant for rich mall-goers with little taste- americanized Japanese and bland sushi. That type of restaurant has its place, but the lack of ability or care to read a room and follow what many servers would consider essentials of service really bothers me as a hospitality professional. I would have been embarrassed to serve that food at that price, or to treat my guests so impersonally. Again, I understand that restaurant service is difficult and experience varies. But I would not be comfortable giving the experience I had tonight, and feel that servers and kitchen staff both could give more effort and concern to their...

My roommate and I ordered through Ubereats tonight and were highly disappointed. Considering the reviews and pictures online, and the price and pictures on the app, we were expecting decent sized, quality rolls. So we went with three rolls and a miso soup (totaled just under $60 before fees/tip!!) I can't even properly rate my order because most of it was wrong, but this is what we ordered, and my comments for each:
Miso soup: tiny portion - maybe 1 measured cup, and too salty. Not worth $3 Godzilla roll: Decent size, good flavor, jury is out on whether it's actually lobster. But overall enjoyable and okay price ($17) Sunshine: Tiny roll, missing all the toppings (no mango, salmon, or honey mustard). The shrimp, crab salad, and avocado were sweet and seemed fresh. But let's be real, I paid $17 and received a california roll with shrimp. Pearl District: I didn't even get this. In its place was a spicy tuna roll with avocado and shrimp - plain shrimp, not tempura. No crab salad, no salmon, no sauce. Also tiny in size. Paid $15 for what's typically priced $8
I gave two stars because the ingredients seem fresh, and they did at least get one thing right. But even if the other two rolls had all their ingredients, the portions are still smaller than what you'd expect for the price.
Thankfully Ubereats refunded me, but I don't think I'll be ordering from here again.
(Picture notes: That's a sandwich plate, not dinner plate, and we did get 8 pieces of each, this was after we split them up the white rolls are the same size you'd get from say a...
Read moreSushi and main dish were good, everything else not so good. Nigiri sushi tasted fresh with descent size servings, a little pricey, but to be expected in Bridgeport. Rolls were good, but special roles were smaller than those at other sushi places I frequent. The only thing we didn't care for was that they brought everyone's sushi on one plate, and had a lot of difficult distinguishing between the spicy salmon and spicy tuna roles due to color and consistency being the same. My wife had the Teriyaki chicken which she said was good, but she also likes all her meat well done. So I can't really vouch for how tender it was.
Negatives: Service slow, both kitchen and wait staff. Edamame didn't look fresh, looked microwaved and a little over done. Miso soup was lukewarm. Cucumber salad had little to no dressing on it. Calamari appeared to be pre-packed type with thick, crunchy breading...like pre-packaged onion rings...and ours came very overcooked, a few pieces that had shed their breading were shriveled, dry and super chewy. Couldn't really tell there was any meat in the breaded ones. Waitress indicated she and the cook knew it was overcooked, but it served it to us any way. If the staff doesn't know enough not to send bad or poorly cooked food to the table, it tells me there's a management problem regarding quality and care. Needless to say we sent the calamari back and it was taken off bill.
I wouldn't recommend this place until they raise their game...
