When I began working with Martin at Tree of Light Health in January, I had exhausted efforts with conventional medicine for three decades. I came to him after also having been treated by another functional medicine practice that left me with just as many questions and undiagnosed health issues. I have dealt with chronic debilitating fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, body-wide pain, endocrine issues, digestive issues, unexplained sensitivities to so many things, brain fog, chronic migraines, and had accumulated a long list of ā€œdiagnoses,ā€ bandaid solutions, 15 surgeries, and little hope of ever finding healing…until I met Martin.

At my first visit I knew he was different from any other health professional I had ever worked with. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable, he is compassionate, attentive, encouraging, and thorough. He is the first medical professional that didn’t tell me that I was ā€œabove their pay grade or too complicated for them.ā€ He has methodically and gently found piece after piece of my health puzzle, and as he constructs it, is helping me to see this picture of health that I never thought was possible. He is the first to treat me as a whole person and to connect the dots from overlapping symptoms and root causes. He is approachable and available to his patients in a way I have never experienced before. He answers questions thoroughly, explains protocols completely, and delivers difficult news gently and compassionately.

He has uncovered root causes of mold toxicity, viral infections, dental cavitations, heavy metal toxicity, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and hormonal imbalances. I still have a long road ahead on this healing journey, but I am already light years ahead of where I was only 3 months ago. My hormones are shifting to a more balanced state, I am sleeping 8-10 hours a night, my anxiety is drastically reduced, I’ve had dental cavitations repaired, my migraines have all but disappeared, and the improvement in my energy levels is astounding.

This journey has gone far beyond the physical to the emotional and spiritual, which is yet another perfect example of how he treats his patients as a whole person. He has supported me in working to process deep trauma that I never knew was affecting my health, and the changes I have experienced in my self-view and resilience to deal with difficult situations and emotions have been remarkable. I am not the same person I was a mere three months ago. I have found hope at Tree of Light Health and it feels miraculous.

If you are one of the 1% like me that conventional medicine has failed regardless of your efforts to seek answers and health, or you just want to sustain or elevate your current level of health, I could not recommend Martin and his health practice enough. He is what medical professionals should be and while I wish I had found him sooner, I am beyond grateful to be his patient. To say he has changed the trajectory of my life is an understatement. He and Charis are a dream team and they will exceed your expectations and help you to achieve the health goals you’ve only dared to dream...

Martin van Leer is a terrific doctor! I highly recommend. A holistic approach is a cheaper and more effective at healing certain ailments than going to a regular doctor. The medical field hasn't quite found the balance between when pharmaceuticals are necessary and when a more natural approach is necessary. In this rat race world, pharmaceuticals are being used as a quick fix to get you back to work, rather than giving your body time to rest and recover.

I came to van Leer with: Extremely bad menstrual cramps (used to take 12-16 ibuprofen for all five days that I bled), Low energy (struggled to go hiking, skateboarding, driving long distances; even struggled with doing basic chores), Joint pain after eating certain foods (a combination of hyperthyroidism and leaky gut).

What I learned: it takes years to break your body down and there is no instant fix. It takes time building it back up. You have to give your body what it needs to heal (including doing something in a slower, lighter, easier way so that your body can heal)

The more you strengthen your body the quicker it heals. The biggest things that your body needs to heal have to do with diet and rest.

Diet meaning good food, good water and supplements. And just because your body is deficient in a specific supplement doesn't mean that just taking that supplement is going to help. Sometimes your body needs that supplement in combination with a few others to properly utilize it.

And I can't say enough about rest. It's not enough to sleep 8 hours a night. If your circadian rhythm is off, you'll sleep but you won't wake up rested. If you work at a stressful job, the stress will break your body down. Think of it like exercising vs a fight or flight response. The first causes your heart to beat faster and makes the muscle stronger. The second causes your heart to beat faster but makes the muscle weaker, which contributes to arrhythmia and stroke. (And I haven't even gone into the negative side affects of stress on the digestive system, nervous system, cardiovascular system ECT.)

After only 7 months of following his guidelines: Changing the way I eat, Changing the way I sleep and wake up Taking the recommended supplements, Following through with the suggested detox methods

My menstrual cramps are a lot more bearable. They have gone down from painful to discomfort. (I'm still working my way to pain free.)

My hyperthyroidism is under control. The last 5 months, my flare ups have been almost non-existent. (Still working my way to a healthy thyroid)

My leaky gut is under control. I'm losing weight and gaining muscle. (Still working my way to a strong, healthy gut.)

My low energy has decreased by a good 40%. I can do longer drives with more ease, do chores without becoming exhausted, and enjoy pleasurable activities like swimming, hiking and skateboarding. (Still working my way to a good energy level.)

And a special shout out to Charise, who's always so helpful in answering my questions and assisting me with my supplement refills.

5 out of...

I've had two appointments with Martin van Lear @ Tree of Life Holistic Health Medicine and made more progress with Martin than I had in several years of seeing multiple other doctors.

For starters, Martin provided me with a correct diagnosis: CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), sometimes called "mold sensitivity" or "mold allergy", which is more serious than that sounds.

Martin is well-versed in standard allopathic medicine, alternative medical modalities, and naturopathic ones, too. He brings a really impressive knowledge base that you simply do not find these days, and then applies his vast knowledge to your specific situation in a personalized, caring manner.

Most of what I have done so far is lab work to verify the diagnosis plus some "supportive" measures to help me feel better until I can start the protocol.

Step 1 of the protocol is Remove from Exposure.

I didn't know I was in exposure. Unfortunately, my new house (spotless, no smells, no visual anything) somehow tested poorly. Thus, a remediation is scheduled for next week.

Although not strictly his bailiwick, Martin was very helpful in connecting me to the proper remediation company and answered more questions on this than you can probably imagine. Martin even attended the Zoom call we had with the technical expert and project manager of the remediation company. Something I didn't know until the meeting starting. A pleasant surprise.

They have worked together before and having Martin's medical expertise and understanding of my condition paired w/ the remediation company's procedures and goals was very helpful.

Once we complete Step 1, we can move on to Step 2 (it is a 12-step protocol).

Others who have been through this process consistently report that Steps 1 & 2 have the greatest positive impact (they are also the hardest, however!), so I am looking forward to making substantial progress in the coming weeks.

Martin has been terrific about so many things: 1) most importantly, perhaps, is that he diagnosed my root cause issue correctly, 2) he requested the labs to verify and quantify that Dx -- and got the labs paid for by insurance, 3) provided a proper, clearly articulated protocol to follow that is scientifically-proven to not merely alleviate symptoms, but also to actually correct the root cause issues, and 4) described how everything works together and in my particular instance.

The whole process unfortunately takes a fair bit of time. Current estimates are approximately 18-24 months post-remediation.

I'll provide an update or two along the way.

For now, it's just such a relief to finally find someone who understands my condition exactly and has a clinically proven protocol to...
