I have been coming here for probably 20 years to have my watches fixed, have my battery replaced, etc. They have always been very helpful, kind, and generous.
Last week, I went in to have my watch band adjusted. For the first time ever, they wanted to charge me. I had no problem with that, but then they proceeded to hard sell me a cleaning for my watch. The woman at the counter told me that normally it was $259, but that she would give it to me for $200. I declined. She gave me a business card and said that she wrote her cell phone number on it, and told me to call her directly if I changed my mind.
This week, I decided to go ahead and have my watch band adjusted after all. Rather than call her cell phone, I just went back to the shop. They first offered to buy my watch (something they had never done before), and when I declined, they asked me again, at least two or three more times. I still declined, and started to feel somewhat uncomfortable. They then offered to clean my watch again. I asked how much it would be, and they said it would be $129. I have been a loyal customer for so long, that I decided to go ahead and have the work done, even though the first offer was about half of the prior week's "discount."
I picked up the watch today, and it does look very nice. I'm not so sure the cleaning was worth $129, though. I was curious to see if they would repair a set of cufflinks for me, so I brought them along. One of the pieces had come loose, and it would require soldering. I knew I could do it myself and home in about 2 minutes, but I wanted to see how much they would charge me. The cufflinks had cost me about $30 at an antique shop; they told me they would try to repair it for $49, but they would not guarantee the work. Naturally, I declined.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend against using their business, but clearly something has changed. I wonder if they're under new management. If you don't mind inconsistent pricing, the new hard-sell sales strategy on services that you don't need, as well as dramatically inflated prices for things that they used to do for free or very inexpensively, go ahead and go. I however will be probably looking for a...
Read moreYesterday I got a brand new Seiko prospex orange samurai. In the afternoon I went here to get a few links taken out of the bracelet, now usually the guy there will do it quickly while I look around the store but this time a new girl told me it would be a half hour. I came back and was told it would be seventeen dollars which didn't seem too bad, but when I inspected the watch there was marring on the bracelet where the pins had to be hammered in. When I asked her about it she told me that it is just glue and another girl I had never seen before grabbed it and walked over to this high pressure steam cleaner and tried to get it off (bad for the seals of the watch) but when she came back I looked even closer and the marring was obvious, Another thing that happened is that I asked her to remove more links from the bottom side of the face so that the clasp sits in the middle of the wrist but she didn't listen and now the watch is uncomfortable to wear. It looked like she had used a claw hammer to put the pins in. When asked what I wanted to do I said that I wouldn't accept that and she said the jeweler will be there tomorrow and will polish it out. As I was leaving the girls in there were laughing at me and my fiance as we were walking out which left an even worse taste in my mouth. I came in today and the jeweler polished it but there was still marring on the bracelet and the jeweler polished it again to get it out. I work with metals and I know that to remove marring you need to remove material and I shouldn't have to have to do that to a brand new watch I haven't ever worn. I went in there with a brand new watch and came out the next day with a watch no longer in new condition and a terrible experience where I used to have a great one.
Unless things are made right I will no longer be buying watches here and will no longer have anything serviced here. The store lost out on a few thousand dollars because of two terrible employees.
Edit: I was contacted by the regional manager George and he told me to come in and he took care of everything. He had the watch swapped out...
Read moreI have posted this to other review sites and will continue to so that I can help anyone with jewelry/watch needs find this great place.
My family and I have been coming to this store for the past decade. I have lost track of how many batteries we have had replaced with them, on watches ranging from costume to Movado, Tiffany, and beyond, and have never had a problem in all these years. While people might know they are great at repairing jewelry, they might not be aware that they are equally as great at creating custom pieces for prices lower than I have found anywhere else. They have become the only store we go to and the only store we trust with our pieces. I can understand why you might think that what looks like a repair store in a mall couldn't possibly be a full service jeweler with the highest standards for your cherished jewelry, but you couldn't be more mistaken. We have taken, and left for cleaning/repair/customization, pieces as cheap as a silver pin, to as irreplaceable as my mother’s 12 carat diamond solitaire engagement ring, and have had absolutely no problems. No matter your jewelry needs, you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you bypass this store in favor of a store with a fancier front, higher prices, and at best, the same quality work.
Long story short: No matter if your jewelry/watch is worth $1 to more than $1 Million, this is the only full service...
