I’ve been going to Dory’s for years for cuts, straightening, and color, and I always trusted the service. However, I recently learned that a family member had a severe reaction to their hair dye that left them hospitalized. At the time, I thought it might have just been their individual reaction since I had never experienced issues myself.
Last week I went in for a dye and cut, and the very next day I woke up with intense itching around my hairline and neck. Since then, it has turned into a nightmare — my skin is raw, painful, and covered in bumps around my forehead and neck. I’ve never experienced anything like this before, and I now have to see a doctor for treatment.
I don’t know if the salon changed products, but something is not right. Please be cautious and do NOT get your hair dyed at this location. I am in extreme pain and wouldn’t want anyone else to go through this. I want to also add that my Normal Hair Stylist Josie wasn't there that day. I've never had a problem with her and I want to be sure that this is not a reflection of her work . She's amazing
In response to Dory First, I want to clarify that I have three family members who go to your salon regularly, so the comment implying otherwise was unnecessary and inaccurate. You really can’t assume who is or isn’t related to whom. In fact, one of my family members, contacted your salon back in May about a severe reaction to hair dye — so this is not the first time this has happened in my family.
Second, mentioning braids as a possible cause for a chemical burn or allergic reaction shows both a lack of cultural awareness and a lack of understanding of how hair dye reactions actually occur. That comment came across as dismissive, especially since braids have absolutely nothing to do with allergic reactions to dye.
I’ve always loved your services and had never experienced any problems until this visit. My review wasn’t meant to bash the salon, but to share an honest experience about a severe reaction to the dye that was applied — including my neck and forehead being covered in painful, itchy sores the following day.
I also want to add that I never leave reviews, good or bad, unless something truly stands out. The amount of pain I was in made it impossible for me to stay silent. My conscience wouldn’t allow me not to warn others about what I went through — especially knowing that it also happened to another person I know.
I stand by my feedback because others deserve to be aware and cautious. I hope the salon takes this situation seriously and reviews its products and...
Read moreYesterday I got my hair bleached and dyed the total cost was 300 . I would like at least some of my money back because my experience was unacceptable ! Parts of my hair is still a little brown, the purple colored hair dye is rubbing off on everything including one of my new hoodies. Every time I touch my hair the color rubs off on my hands . The whole back of my neck , ears, behind my ears , and my forehead had an excessive amount of hair dye on it .I spent last night after I got my hair done and this morning cleaning those parts Which still has dye on it.What upset me the most is that was asked my age multiple times even after I stated my age. when I told them I was 20 they didn’t believe me and made me sign a blank index card because it was “Procedure” because they thought I was “14” . if it was an actual “procedure “ Which there shouldn’t be ... there should of been an actual written form I can not believe this . They also didn’t know I speak Spanish and was mumbling on whether or not if they believe me . Later When I told the ladies I did not like the shade of my hair the response I got was “well you have too“ . I was also told I need to come back to get a toner ... for 300$ it should of been done properly the first time without any of this access hair dye rubbing off on every thing ! I have taken pictures of my hoodie , hands , and the amount of wipes and cotton balls I had to use to . I would like a direct response...
Read moreIF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR DO NOT COME HERE! Relaxer was mixed in the conditioner when I didn’t ask for that. I asked for a doobie and deep conditioner. I noticed my head started to tingle during my deep conditioner treatment and my hair just didn’t look right after it was rinsed out. I thought that was pretty strange and suspected relaxer might have been used. The next day, my hair was so tangled to comb through and two weeks later I washed my hair and everything was straight! Rinsing out my hair, I could smell the chemicals of the relaxer and my hair is now so thin. I’m so disappointed with this and it should really be illegal to do something like this to someone’s hair without their permission. I have been natural for over 8 years and now I’m forced to start over. This has been a horrible experience for me and do not wish this on anyone who is natural or not interested in relaxers. Dory’s, you should be ashamed...
