Selecting a contractor is always a stressful process. I was looking for a landscape contractor to resod my lawn, dress a couple of planting beds, line my garden with 4x4 railroad ties and line the perimeter of my backyard with rocks to protect my new fence. Never having used a landscape contractor before, I solicited some recommendations from other contractors and people I trust that had worked on my property before including my fence contractor and the local farm and garden center in my town. One contractor after another showed up. One came for the initial estimate and took over a week to complete it. He insisted that he had sent the estimate but despite watching him type my email address into his tablet I never received one. This was the recommendation from the garden center. This guy was a fireman doing landscaping on the side. The next contestant was the recommendation of my fence contractor. He spent most of the initial consultation telling me what he couldn’t do and what I needed to do to make his job easier. NEXT!! I then went on my own and looked at highly rated contractors on Google. One guy obviously didn’t want the job and provided me with a high priced incomplete estimate. The next guy turned out to be a 20 something kid that arrived looking like he just walked out of the Cheech and Chong car. He was more interested in telling me about how beautifully he could landscape my front yard which wasn’t what I was looking for. Then I came across Green Acres Landscape Contractor and Gus. Gus walked quietly with me as I pointed out the details of what I wanted. He would occasionally give me suggestions about better ways of accomplishing what I wanted. Gus also inspired confidence as he really appeared to know his stuff. He got the job. He checked off all the boxes I had for a contractor. He showed up for the initial consultation on time. He provided a detailed estimate that covered everything I wanted. When the work started, he stayed with his crew providing guidance and assistance. He only left for brief periods to get material and came right back. I wanted aluminum edging to hold the river stones and not only did he get it he got it in a color that matched my fence without being told. He was very meticulous and stopped the work when he had a question and had me approve any changes that had to be made before he made them. He assumed nothing. The final result is nothing short of stunning. This guy is a real professional and a nice guy to boot. He told me to call him if there was ever an issue with the work. The sod he laid is beautiful and he selected grass that would do well in my backyard. I can’t recommend this guy highly enough.
