Tacoma Custom Jewelers — Local services in University Place

I've had an AWESOME experience with Tacoma Custom Jewelers, and working with Dan. I'm a bit of a jewelry addict, and prefer high quality and unique jewelry, and was thrilled to find this gem of a store on 6th. This is a bit of a long review, but I had to share!

I went in with a strict budget to see what I could design for an engagement ring, as I did not want the traditional diamond and chain jewelry store setting. I had an idea on the type of stone, which is fairly rare, but hadn't been able to find one from a source I could trust that would still leave money in my budget for a creative setting.

Dan spent a lot of time with me, offering options that could keep me within my budget but get the look I wanted. He had some great suggestions on other options for stones, including one that I had never heard of before. When those options didn't work out, he had a network of people he reached out to in order to find just what I wanted.

In addition to the hunt for the stone, Dan has this amazing computer program you can use to design your dream ring. Unfortunately, the dream ring I designed was a bit beyond my budget, especially with the spectacular stone he'd found. I was bummed, and at a bit of a loss for what I could do. Conscious of this and respectful of my budget, Dan found a ring in his estate jewelry section that had a setting similar to my design!

With some work from his master bench jeweler and the placement of my stone in the setting, my ring is everything I was looking to find! Simple, unique, and stunning. I really appreciate how knowledgeable and honest Dan was, and all the time he spent to help me get just what I wanted. I'll definitely be back, and will recommend this place to all...

My experience was brief, but I believe that it shows a lot about the ingretity of this business. Recently, my rose gold seamless nose ring got all bent out of shape - I was going to try to fix it myself, but realized that it was probably better to go somewhere that does that sort of thing. I googled, and decided this was the place to go, even though nose jewelry probably isn’t their typical request.

I went in, and the owner Dan was there and I explained the situation. He was very friendly and personable, and immediately started bending my ring back into shape right there. He then took it into the back to polish it up for me. When he returned, I asked how much I owed him for his service, to which he said “nothing”. I offered Starbucks, but he refused (haha). I am so grateful and glad that I went in to have it fixed rather than ruin it further myself.

While he was working on my ring, I had a few minutes to poke around. All of their jewelry is beautifully displayed and stunning. They have a lot of unique and interesting stones as well, which you may not find elsewhere. They seemed really passionate and knowledgeable about the service that they were providing as well, rather than just trying to sell you stuff like some jewelry places. I feel as though they are invested in the community too, which I think is so important! The artwork and glass on the second floor was all gorgeous as well.

My husband and I were lucky enough to find Tacoma Custom Jewelers in 2015. We were greeted with a warm welcome, a tour of the beautiful shop, and a kind answer to all of our questions. We were initially shopping for an updated engagement ring and wedding bands, as we set a date for August 2015. We started the process with Dan in April 2015 and about a month later, we had the wedding bands of our dreams. Dan gave us so much useful information about the diamonds, metals, gemstones and how creative we could be with our budget. We feel incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with Dan and let him and his team create something special and unique; something we look at and wear every single day.

Fast forward to 2017, we returned to Dan to replace the center stone of my engagement ring. Dan and his team at TCJ outdid themselves, yet again! Most recently we visited TCJ to revamp my husband's wedding band (new onyx and an internal gold fill). We just picked it up today and were completely blown away by the amazing job they did!

We have seen them move from their original location on 6th Avenue in Tacoma to their gorgeous new spot in University Place. We have recommended all of our friends and family that are looking for jewelry to them over the past 8 years and will continue to because of how wonderful Dan and his team are. Thank you so much...
