At first I was really excited about this community center. However, it has fallen way short. There have already been multiple problems with the physical building- I saw that the facade had to be redone, the ceiling was leaking, and the lights in the main entry were almost all flickering. This is an absolutely brand new building, this shouldn't be happening!
It is very clear how undertrained the staff is. The facility is already dirty in the bathrooms, the trash cans are over-flowing, and the toilets are often always wet (from the pool) and dirty. There are also all sorts of little things that are broken or were clearly not installed correctly like broken doorhandles or toilet paper dispensers. (I did not take pictures of the toilets for obvious reasons, but you can see some of the other issues I saw just in 5 minutes.)
In addition, the overall customer service is a combination of subpar and unprofessional. The staff, especially one of the older men with brown/black hair, at the front desk is exceptionally rude. I have seen him yell not only at the kids, but be rude to other adult customers at the front desk.
The rest of the staff just seems untrained. There doesn't seem to be any common courtesy or understanding of what good customer service is such as listening to customers, quickly paying attention to us when we're in front of the desk (instead of continuing to talk with the other staff a personal topic unrelated to their jobs before meandering over 10 minutes later), or attempting to provide better services (like cleaning the bathrooms).
The website is difficult to navigate and it shows different pricing than other advertisements. Granted, the UA Rec Center website has always been difficult to navigate, but I thought this would get fixed with the grand opening and the new location. It's so disappointing that the existing problems got larger when the...
Read moreThis place does not do anything well. For example, the fitness center is small and inadequate, with limited amenities, including tiny locker rooms and exercise equipment scattered throughout the facility. Moreover, fitness management seems inexperienced. There are no signs indicating slow walkers should stay to the right, like every other fitness center; therefore, no one can run on the track.
Worse, it is a brand new building but has poor water pressure and a lack of hot water. I get mildly warm showers at best with intermittent bursts of cold water. This happens midday and there is no one else showering. There is no excuse.
Getting into the building is also a nightmare for people with disabilities and the elderly (yet is the new senior center). It faces away from the parking area, and there is no drop-off zone (likely an ADA violation). They oddly placed barriers too far into the sidewalk so no one can walk beside people with disabilities or their grandparents to assist them.
This thing is a mess that does not know what it wants to be. It has tons of wasted space (venue and meeting rooms that go unused), a nearly empty senior center no one uses because it's inaccessible and only offers coffee and puzzles, making it feel like a nursing home. They placed the front desk in an area with a three-story ceiling open to a kids' play area. It is clear that older adults cannot hear the desk staff. And an esports room that, again, is almost always empty. No attempts to create teams or appeal to young people. These computers would be better utilized as general computers anyone could use for internet access,...
Read moreA member of the staff came up to me stating that I could not use my phone while I was slowly walking on the stair master. And that I had to have my hands on the bars of the stair master at all times. I have been going for a while to the gym at the community center and had never heard of this rule. Additionally there are NO SIGNS and it was not brought up when I signed up for my membership. I brought this up to the two kind girls at the front desk who had never been informed of the rule. They rang a woman named Shannon who first said that this was not a rule, then she came down and said completely unconcerned with her previous statement that this is actually a rule. I found this very frustrating as staff “Shannon” does not even know the rules when she is a higher up. The confusion on a rule that is not being uniformly enforced is completely unacceptable and membership holders cannot be expected to follow rules they don’t know about. POST YOUR GYM RULES. Additionally i found it concerning the way Shannon handled the entire situation instead of listening to my concerns and validating then she was completely unreceptive and told me to report members using their phones to her. If she wants to tell me what to do put me on the payroll. She was very...
