Gorgeous and vast selection of familiar and exotic produce including clearly labeled organics. Great bakery. Great bulk selection. Deli section has small but filling and delicious soup, salad, fruit and olive bars. Also rotating hot meals, plus comfort standards like Mac and cheese and tater tots (portions are HUGE), custom sandwiches, individual gelato scoops, kombucha on tap plus inhouse made best pizza in the 'Couve I've found so far. There is a large section of tables and a condiments bar for a cozy lunch or breakfast. Lots of great local and in house made products. Note: Chuck closes early on Fridays and is closed Saturdays for religious reasons (7 Day Adventists), and has no pork or pork products for the same reason. One star off for inept customer service. Some are helpful and intelligent, but too many are curt, dismissive or incorrectly informed. I have had to go to a manager more than once. Example: I sampled a soup labeled Vegetable Stew that had meat shreds in it that at first glance looked like seaweed. I went to the deli and was told the sign was correct. I insisted clerk come with me and look. She repeated the sign was correct, it was stew with vegetables in it. I said the sign was misleading and would cause a lot of distress among my vegetarian friends. The clerk said they would fix it. I finished shopping and went back to check an hour later and the sign hadn't been changed, so I went to the customer service desk and asked for a manager who then corrected the sign in seconds. In house made pizza is wonderful, especially their low gluten sourdough crust (they also have gluten free for no additional cost) but pizza has frequently not available past 6 because they "need to clean the oven." so it's hit or miss if you want a pizza to go for dinner. Also, it is better to order pizza for take out in person while you shop - I have been given the wrong toppings and been quoted an incorrect price when I ordered...
Read moreIf you are looking for unusual or organic produce this is the place to go, they quite often have very good deals and sales on things... If you want some deals that are extremely good then it is best to arrive just after they open, as there is often manager specials available that include things like large boxes of apples or oranges for $5 each (depending on season)
Chucks also has a very excellent soup, anti pasti, salad, and fruit bars, as well as a deli that is stocked with a variety of good salad, and cold food items. The deli is also the place to get either ready made sandwiches, or custom made ones at a very good price. Like hot food? No problem, as they also have a pizza station where you can get fresh made sourdough or gluten free crust pizza by the slice or whole pizzas. Or you can select their hot rock special, varying from day to day, I had tried things like spaghetti and meatballs, southern fried chicken, meatloaf, potroast and turkey... along with the trimmings...
Hamburger more your style? They also do custom made burger orders as well. Vegetarian or vegan? They got you covered easy.
Or you can visit their chuck wagon for hot and very good breakfasts or taco lunch that are easy on the pocketbook.
Want some dessert after lunch? They got you covered as well... visit their soda bar for a wide selection of gelato, or soft serve in vanilla, chocolate or flavor of the week. They also do custom milkshakes as well.
Want a cheese accompanyment or to take some home? They have a very good selection of cheeses, ranging from the normal cheddars to the unusual...
There is one thing to keep in mind, is that this is a store which has zero pork in it... so you will find selections which are beef, chicken or turkey based... ranging from their ready to eat selections to their frozen...
Read moreI recently visited the Chuck's Produce on 132nd and Mill Plain. I did not have a good experience. First of all there were no carts available. Where are you supposed to put your groceries? I walked around the produce department. The produce was not any better than Fred Meyer and that is not saying very much. Chucks used to be known for their excellent produce. I bought two cantaloupe on sale. There was no one in the store. It was like a ghost town. There used to be a lot of people at Chucks. I then went to the bakery to find a Cheesecake. There was no one in the bakery dept. There was a sign posted saying "we will be back soon". I waited for a long time and no one showed up. I asked the man in the deli department if there was anyone in the bakery. He said " they are on a break so you will have to wait until they get back, I can not help you". I went to the manager and told her my problem of wanting to have someone help me in the bakery. She told me that she could get me what I wanted. There was a man who showed up in the bakery. I told the man that I wanted to purchase a cheesecake and he directed me to the cheesecake in the case. I asked him how long the cheese cake had been in the case and he told me "two days". I asked him if he had anything fresh and he brought own a cheesecake from the refrigerator that was made that day. The cheese cake that used to be $20.00 has gone up to almost $27.00 now. There were only two cashiers available. The two cantaloupes I purchased were mottled, white and diseased inside when I cut them open. I had to throw them away. The cheesecake crumbles up when I cut it. I can not see how this store can stay open. The customer service is horrible and the food is not very good and is very expensive. It sure has deteriorated since the Canadian company...
