On June 6, 2025, I decided to give my sister a gift — we hadn’t seen each other in 10 years. I asked her husband to buy a pair of sapphire earrings from me, as sapphire is her birthstone. My son, who speaks English, went with them, while my sister and her husband do not speak English.
They found the earrings and made the purchase. But once they returned to the car and opened the box, they found three earring backs, which was already strange. Even worse — two of them didn’t fit one of the earrings and looked noticeably different in size and color.
They immediately went back to the store and spoke to the sales associate. She wasn’t surprised at all — clearly, she already knew about the issue but tried to take advantage of the fact that they didn’t speak English. She was clearly annoyed and went to look for a back in the fashion jewelry section, which shocked my son — he reminded her the earrings were solid gold and cost $700, not $1, and demanded a proper gold back.
Then she brought in another associate, who found a gold back that was visibly much larger than the matching one. My sister refused. But instead of respecting that, both saleswomen started pressuring and manipulating her, saying things like “It won’t be visible behind your hair” or “You can have one made by a jeweler.”
Seriously? That’s completely unacceptable.
Only after insisting did they finally go to the diamond earring section to find a back that actually matched.
If you’re buying earrings there — try them on in-store.
As someone in the military who is rarely home, I only heard about this yesterday. My sister didn’t want to upset me. But I feel terrible — my gift was meant to bring her joy, not make her feel disrespected and uncomfortable because of two...
Read moreWhat a cluster. Purchase a bathing suit. $65.64. Used my wintrust debit card. Transaction takes forever clerk terminates transaction processes again this time I use my PayPal debit card, same thing happens. No receipts. Department manager comes over who pulls a journal off the register. Journals shows three transactions one to wintrust, two for PayPal cancelling each other. Now they say I still owe for the suit as the WinTrust transaction, presumably, did not go through. Now I go to each individual website. PayPal shows a debit and a credit, perfect. Wintrust shows a credit. Department manager insist transaction was cancelled but can produce nothing that shows this. Now I call wintrust they show it as a pending transaction with no offset debit. No one can cancel anything no one can give me a receipt even their journals don't show the corresponding debit against the credit. Now, I presume, their I T person comes over who is giving me the same story as the department manager. How to get this finalized. Still on the phone with wintrust I instruct her to make some notation against the transaction so in the two days it takes to clear I have recourse. I paid cash for the suit. And now I am listening to the clerk Rundown the incident, and these other two are staring at her like she has a horn coming out of her head. So I say, she did everything right from what I could tell ... your equipment failed. No one wants to argue with the customer I suppose, so the IT guy says he's sending somebody over to take a look at the equipment. This counteraction took longer than my trying on 6 bathing suits and making a decision ( which is huge for me), Is it any wonder department stores are losing...
Read moreUpdate June 2025. There are NO working elevators or escalators in the entire Macy's building. How then do you expect customers to shop, particularly handicapped ones? Take a look at all the out of service signs. What a shame. Everything is broken. I see you are trying to save money in electric bills, but it only takes one accident or emergency for you to close when someone trips or tumbles down the stairs.... Might as well shut the store down. We had to walk all the way outside the store to use the mall escalators to reach the second floor.
Update April 2025.
Please FIX all your escalators. There's no way that they can be broken for years. Fir me to have to wait and share an elevator with several other ppl is time not well spent. I can see how by not running escalators you are saving in electricity, but it's very inconvenient. Woodfield Macy's does the same so I know that they can't all be broken. This is a great Macy's. Not only is it never crowded, but merchandise is available and store layout is great and organized. The inside is clean and spacious. I was able to score a great deal on Tumi luggage and backpacks.
Although the men's suits area is not as big as Woodfield, staff do help me in finding the items I am looking for and even offered to help me order online. The staff members are always...
