It has been such a pleasure to witness this store come to fruition. The owner, Danielle, started off her success by creating a local Facebook group that people come to for recommendations for local products and services, for advertising for local business, helping those in need, and a way to bring community together all on one forum. She did that SO incredibly well that she has amassed over 60,000 people who interact with and visit the site endlessly. It has become the place everyone locally knows they can turn to for recommendations and answers to questions from real life people, where businesses are vetted, where being kind is a necessity, and where helping those in our community is the number one goal. Now, she has turned this online business that helps so many into a brick and mortar location for everyone to enjoy in person. It is incredible to see how every little detail about VBN Beach Shop has been meticulously paid attention to and addressed to build yet another way to support local businesses, give back to the community, and reward the person who has worked so hard to put all of this together. There are so many lovely products from local vendors, beach supplies, all things referring VBN (The Facebook Page), and it is also a candy store! There is a quaint little corner to gather and relax or even have meetings! This store is so much more than a little beach shop - it is a physical representation of our community's...
Read moreI was very disappointed to see them selling and doubling down on AI "illustrated" children's books. Hands have too many or too few fingers, dogs are sitting in mid-air, etc etc. Unfortunately this means this... "author"... if you call generating pictures and slapping the names of professions on top writing.. chose to use generative AI instead of commissioning an artist. This harms locals artists, the children reading it (they deserve quality books too, would you want to read an AI book?), and the reputation of the places selling it. On top of an artist not being paid, art is being stolen from artists for the generation of those pictures. It'd be a win-win to do the right thing and pay an artist to draw simple illistrations, or, considering the contents of the book, have someone at church donate some legimate art. I care too much about the arts to support AI, and you should too, both customers and businesses owners have to be aware and ethical in our purchases and the things we carry in stores. This stuff is incredibly harmful to real authors, and VERY EASY to avoid. My original review was shorter and less harsh, with the hope that maybe the owners just didn't realize that its AI and the harm... instead they doubled down. There are many ethical simple ways to go about this that don't harm local artists and authors, but these people are more interested in...
