Sadly, it feels like they are following GreedWill's lead and over pricing items, also noted their weekly color sale was no longer offered and the prices have jumped after the remodel, a Shien dress was 12 dollars, I promise it was cheaper from Shien, other items, waffle maker ten dollars same as new from Walmart, and anything new to the store like a spatula was retail or better (and yes I know the location bought these items and they mark them up to repay themselves but why would I pay higher end retail on a spatula at 5 dollars new, I can go to dollar tree for 1.25...its fine to look at when you are out and about in hopes of finding something that may have caught your eye but the community doesn't need another thrift store chain that is copying Greedwill's model and not serving those who low income, who need items at discounted prices being used are trying to avoid asking for hand out, you are actively taking away a hand up and I would like to be supporting recycle and reuse, there are more than enough donations move the items by being decently priced, load vs. not overpricing items and then shipping it off to the bins and finally either 3rd world countries drowning in fast fashion or ideally to be reycled but data is showing it doesn't seem to be recycled as its cheaper to send off, to do further damage... and spear me the we charge this much to run our programs.. I worked for Greedwill for years and saw this model first hand it was shameful, it lead to those in need being unable to afford items and a lot of waste sent off to the compactor or 3rd world. Sell by volume vs. trying to outprice resellers or keeping up with Greedwill..at the very least I can say your non-profit does seem to offer more accessible help than Greedwill and I want to support that but when its cheaper for me to go online or drive further out to better priced thrift stores that are also doing the work but...
Read moreNot sure about the reviewers talking about how good the prices are and wondering if they are even talking about the same location. Unfortunately this is another thrift store getting out of control with pricing. I have examples - currently in the store there is a platter that is priced at 299.99-- you saw that number correctly $300 for a platter at St Vincents. Who is going to buy this? By the way I had to research to see why this would be so expensive and it is not-- you can literally buy the piece online for half the price or lower if you search for a bit. I went down the aisles and spotted a figurine priced at $17?? A bowl for $18, a vase for $17, a very broken figurine piece in the case for $39.99 that has been there for about 2 months and counting because it is priced too high and all broken. I could continue listing examples but you probably get the point. This is considered good pricing at a thrift store???? I thought that thrift stores were getting all of these FREE items and placing them on the shelves at great reasonable prices to help those in need. I think it is despicable that pricing is getting this out of control at any establishment that is getting merchandise dropped off and handed to them. Those in poverty would like to have nice things as well, do you realize that?? These stores are getting so out of touch. If you are so concerned about researching what you are getting handed to you and pricing at top dollar then drop the thrift store charade and your non profit status and call yourself an antique store. An additional note: I have seen overlapping of their own tags which I am guessing is to make sure you do not get items at 30% or 50% off. I cannot help but think the rave price reviews are from their own staff members because what I am seeing on the shelves is not good...
Read moreThings have been much better the last few times I visited this location. I will erase my comments below if this continues Nice to see things back on track at a great store!
Love Vinny's...but...not this visit from the winter of 2017. I shop this and many other thrift stores on a regular basis. Usually I would rate a St. Vincent de Paul store among my favorite to visit. The employees are all very nice and helpful. Most of the time the prices are great and you can always find bargains. The Waukesha location has a great selection and great people. Unfortunately my last visit was a horrible experience. After literally hundreds of visits to St Vinny shops I am saddened to say the manager refused to allow my purchase because the store had closed. I've been in retail sales my entire adult life so I understand that customers dragging thier feet at close can be frustrating. That's why I was at the checkout 10 minutes before 8pm. Because the cashier had a line I decided to patiently wait and kill the time looking at watches. I made sure to be in line before the last customer was processed. It was not until then, after 24 minutes patiently waiting, that I was told I could not buy the items I had selected. Even worse is the fact that the manager walked by me and saw that is at the front before close. Then she would not even make eye contact with me when I calmly tried to get her attention regarding the matter. I hope that future visits (when I can bring myself to try again) will be better. I hope to change my rating to 5 stars again and add this store back on my list...
