Future customers beware that the thing you agreed upon might not be the deal they honor. Read on for my experience.
I traded in two rare "Staff Stamped" Pokemon cards towards store credit a few weeks before the release of a Prismatic Evolution, for a total of $105 store credit to be used towards two Elite Trainer Boxes, priced a bit above MSRP for a total of $140 plus tax.
Three time across two visits I confirmed with the owner, Jordan, that he would hold two ETBs for me and I could use my store credit (supplemented with cash and a gift card) to pay for them. I'm stoked - I'm paying a small premium but getting hard to get stuff. Nice!
Jump forward to the day before release. Jordan emails me to tell me that, in a policy change new to this specific release, I cannot use my store credit towards these purchases and that I will only allowed to buy one ETB. Paraphrasing Jordan, "Yes, when we made this deal we didn't have this store policy for Pokemon. But we changed it, so our deal no longer applies."
I'm frustrated Jordan and the store misled me (at best) about my trade in, or (at worst) actively changed their policy to make more money off an existing trade in. Jordan made it 100% clear they had this policy for other items in the store in our conversation, but freely admitted to changing it regarding Pokemon stuff just to cash in on the hype. To give Jordan credit is is actually giving me my traded in cards back, but it is small solice for missing out on a cool deal and having a poor experience with a fun local game store.
Big bummer. I wish the store and Jordan all the best in their future endeavors, but warn future customers that this small business might not do what they agreed upon in pursuit of...
Read moreMystic Fortress Games has honestly blown me away. First of all the staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They've done a awsome job at creating a safe and fun environment for everyone. Its easy to tell that they actually care about the store and customers. I've noticed they are really good with kids too. There is a great selection of merchandise whether you're a beginner or expert in your game of choice the products are there, with staff that will answer questions you have. Lots of Magic the gathering, Pokemon, D&D supplies, board games, books and more items that I haven't even looked at yet. They also have social gatherings like tcg tournaments and mini figure painting get togethers. I don't know a lot about those but I'm sure if you ask, check out their website or social media there is more information. At the end of the day I recommend going here over somewhere like Target because its locally owned and...
Read moreGreat place to find any table top game you're looking for. The staff are always masked and are very helpful and kind. The store is a tad small but they are expanding soon to the shop next door. I gave only 4 stars because of the size of the store but my review will change depending on the look of the new area.
Edit: After seeing what the new area looks like and the space being utilized, I have changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. The open floor of the new place will be most welcome. I highly recommend anyone who reads this to come check it out when they open the space up in the 4th Quarter of 2021.
Edit: With time passing and giving the store some room to grow, I have seen it flourish. The owners have made some great changes to the layout of the store. The events they host have really brought in diverse groups of patrons. I hope you come by and check...
