I really don’t like writing negative reviews, especially for a great veterans organization such as the American Legion. But the leadership at this post is severely lacking, and deserves a mark for unprofessionalism.
I attended a child’s birthday party recently at the 57th post, and since I was traveling a distance I wanted to arrive early in order to help out and make the trip worth while. We were told that the building wouldn’t be open until after 2pm, which seemed odd but was fine since we had the rest of the day and night to set up and celebrate.
Only 2 and a half hours into the party, the Staff at the Legion began telling us we had to get going. This didn’t make sense as we were never told about an end time and when the reservation was booked, there was no communication that there was a time window. And while that would have been annoying but understandably our mistake if we had started at 12pm like officially intended, they wouldn’t let us in the building till 2pm. Meaning they only had us booked for the room for 2 hours? Including setup??
Obviously somewhere along the way, the staff at the American Legion Post 57 failed to notify us of a time slot, and then continued to fail to notify us over the 6 months since the reservation was made. And then failed to notify us when we started setting up for that party. Once they saw how many owns we had to bring in for the party, it was plainly obvious we thought we would be there for a longer time than they originally assumed. At that point we sold have been told there was another group coming soon.
I understand that mistakes do happen, and that while this was completely foreseen and could have been avoided, the American Legion Posts usually do such a good job, that I could overlook this whole incident. However, the deciding factor in writing this review for me was the rudeness and bullying from several members of the staff, to the point that our party was so disgusted we didn’t want to be there anymore. That was most likely their intention, make everyone so uncomfortable that we couldn’t stay. I was enraged they would act so inappropriately, especially in front of mine and several others children. Absolutely abhorrent behavior and completely classless to act in such a way around children.
Leadership at this Post needs to step up and address these issues going forward, or new leadership is needed at the top. What a terrible mark on the reputation of a great...
Read moreUnfortunately I Just had a terrible experience at the American Legion in waldwick. My husband is a coast guard veteran and We always booked the hall; this was our 4th time booking. We booked the hall in April for our Dec 14 party and everything was set for 230-630 as it’s our understanding they don’t open until 2pm. It was also spoken to beforehand. I spent a lot of time putting the party together and a lot of our friends came from far to celebrate my baby’s 1st birthday. Well, at 4pm we were kicked out. They presented us with what was clearly fabricated document stating we had booked 12-4pm when we had never even signed anything as documented plus we were told they didn’t open until 2pm. Even while we were setting up the night before we confirmed the event time at 230. They tried to blame us for “double booking” even though it was their mistake and pretty much came to our party and started rushing myself and my guests out, because they booked the venue to someone else. Then one of the people there began to be rude to my guests and yelling saying we had to clear out. I mean this was all family and children. I’m so disappointed in the American Legion for acting this way. I couldn’t even take the pictures I wanted with my family and my baby. There was no consideration for us at all. I recommend you get a written and confirmed document before booking anything here. It’s unfortunate this experience will have us looking at other towns to rent...
Read moreAvoid this place at all costs, and this is coming from a woman with a brother in law who is a Marine and another brother in law who was a Cost Guard.
Whoever runs their booking and events is unorganized and extremely rude. They double booked my nieces first birthday party. About an hour and a half in to our children’s birthday party, the American legions drunken Social Chair kept coming into our private room bullying us to leave due to his mistake. He kept trying to intimidate us by being extremely loud raising his voice. It was horribly inappropriate especially in front of young children.
We obviously wanted to stay until our scheduled and paid time block was up, but then, members of this post kept coming into our hovering over our party demanding we start packing up their things WHILE moving in their own tables and food for their own party. They actually started to raise their voices and yell to move and pack up quicker. 0/10 experience, do...
