I'd like to begin by saying that I never leave reviews, but this experience was deeply disheartening for me and I have to share my experience. It is 2024, and it is upsetting to me that situations like this are still occurring.
This store is absolutely beautiful, and the dresses are stunning. However, upon entering the store, I noticed lingering stares, and when I approached the sales associates to inquire about dresses for a wedding, I encountered an unnecessary response.
I clarified that the wedding was black tie and that the guests were also asked to wear the color black. To my surprise, the sales associate insisted, "You know you don't have to wear black if it's a black tie event." Despite reiterating the specific request from the bride and groom for the guests to also wear black, I felt offended. I also communicated my budget but expressed flexibility if I found a dress I loved.
While perusing the dresses upstairs, I noticed that one of the associates followed me. She did not ask if I needed help or if I wanted to try something on. Instead, she watched me from the staircase as I looked at the dresses. Subsequently, while I was trying on dresses downstairs, I inquired about trying on another dress that I saw upstairs. The sales associate then stated, "that dress costs way more than the one you're trying on. It's over $1,000." This comment felt unnecessary and insinuated a judgment on my financial capacity.
As a black young professional with advanced degrees and a business owner, I found this treatment upsetting. Sadly, I was not treated with the same kindness and respect as the other customers in the store. I am not sure if this treatment stemmed from me wearing yoga pants, or if it occurred because I'm young. Regardless of one's profession, background, or race, everyone deserves equal kindness and respect. Despite the disappointing experience, I maintained a smile and remained respectful. I even found an additional dress that I wanted to purchase for my birthday, but regrettably, the overall treatment made me feel uncomfortable and influenced my decision not to proceed with purchasing anything.
I'd also like to note that my mother was on FaceTime with me while I was shopping, and she witnessed the entire encounter. She was so upset and disappointed by how I was treated and by the statements that were made towards me while I was in the store. She encouraged me to write this review about my experience.
It is my hope that such instances can be addressed to ensure that all customers are treated with the same level of courtesy and consideration...

When went upstairs to look at the dresses, the owner followed us and told us that we needed an appointment to be upstairs at all. We thought that was weird so we left the store and called a few minutes later to ask if we needed an appointment to be upstairs and try on the dresses. The guy that picked up told us we didn't need an appointment and we could just come in and try on the dresses. We knew that there was something weird going on so we went back to the store and confronted the owner about her actions. She kept changing the response, stating that we only needed an appointment to try on multiple dresses because they were busy (although there were only a few people in the store at the time, including us). At that point, it was clear that her actions were either racially or class motivated because she kept changing the responses to save face. After we left the store, we looked at the reviews and saw that this kind of profiling is a common occurrence, as many people of all backgrounds talked about how they were condescended and could see that she doesn't treat people with respect unless they look rich.
