Stayed in Lock #10 for two nights in mid-October. Wonderful stay. Bottom line, I definitely recommend the Georgetown House and would (Will) stay again. Comparing the value, quality, and location across other Georgetown properties – this place is a hand’s down winner! Few points: Comfortable bed, clean room. Locks 10 and 11 seem like they would be the best choice, other locks have common doors just outside your door, so you hear everyone coming / going and getting coffee, etc. Nice little two-person outdoor patio set outside lock #10, very nice for sharing a night cap. Others have commented about the absence of staff, I do agree this is off putting but everything seemed to work with a little ‘figuring out’. For example, checking in at the ATM like machine, which takes a $100 deposit – and provides a numerical key code to your room. It was unclear to me that code ALSO opens the front door just to the right of the ATM, and whether that door was the common entrance. 4a. Another reviewer also mentioned their deposit took longer than they expected to be refunded, I was surprised to see the deposit move to a charge vice dropping from ‘pending charges’, took the full 5 days to credit after I called – expect a delay, the refund is not instant. On the coffee machine, it defaults to a 6oz pour. Override that and select 10oz – that fills the cup entirely and doesn’t waste the Keurig grounds in the capsule. Location could not be better, don’t miss dinner at Clyde’s or a dessert to go from Filomena’s (Turtle and Strawberry cheesecakes are spectacular, all made in house). Common area kitchen has a full size refrigerator with 11 labeled bins, each for a lock – nice to be able to chill a bottle of wine or other items as needed.
Would stay again, thank you...

Read moreWe stayed here 10/30 - 11/3 in Lock 11. Location is great, the street can get noisy but we didn't hear anything in our room. Service was great, we dropped our bags due to getting in early. When we went to check in, our bags were in our room. We had a living room with a futon (pulls down into a bed) and tv, bedroom had a tv, desk, other storage and rack to hang clothes and a bathroom, we also had a shared balcony facing the canal. The canal doesn't have any water due to construction to reinforce the walls (there is no construction currently going on so you don't have to worry about noise, just know you won't have a view of the water). It's about a 30 second walk to M street and less than 5 minutes to the water front. Using Uber the longest it took to get into or out of DC was 20 minutes (that was coming back from the American History museum around 4 on Halloween), with the average being around 10 for most of what we went in for. Another plus is on the bottom floor there is a full size shared fridge, microwave, toaster oven, Keurig, plates etc. It's great when you have leftovers from the fabulous restaurants in the area. We stayed at The Graham last year on the street over and I will definitely choose The Georgetown House when we come back.* update* also stayed at the town house from 1/14-1/17. It was very spacious, clean and can’t beat the location....
