It's about time that we had a decent mixed use, family friendly shopping/dining/living complex on the far south side of town.
Waverly has a very good mix of shopping and dining. I am pleasantly surprised by the diversity of restaurants for such a relatively small area. You like chicken? Check. How about Mediterranean? Got that. Meat lover? Yes, including buffalo! How about pho or sushi? Yep, that's there too. And it's all centered around family friendly spaces (for the most part). Kids can run while you sit in the fresh air, and small boutique shops are right there in the mix.
Problems? Yes, unfortunately. By trying to maximize the land use, things like parking and even just driving around the complex is a bit frustrating. Chances are on any given night you will be parking a good distance away from your destination. And the traffic is terrible (comes with the territory). Be very careful and stay alert for drivers who either are too busy looking at their mobile devices it just plain think they own the roads, especially cross walks.
Overall Waverly is a great place to spend a few (or more) hours once you get past the frustration of just...
Read moreBrand new shopping center with some good stores, including Whole Foods. HOWEVER, the layout of this place is terrible... I used to think The Arboretum was an awful layout, but this place takes the cake. Traffic inside the shopping area is congested and confusing. The layout is way more complex than it should be. It's really hard to find specific stores or restaurants. It is a sprawling complex which makes walking arduous and inconvenient, not to mention dangerous as traffic seems to just move willy-nilly in between the randomly arrayed parking lots and garages. And this place isn't even full yet. It will only get worse I'm afraid. And do not get me started on the impact this will have on an already clogged Providence Road corridor. Seriously. This was a golden opportunity to make a really nice car and pedestrian friendly mixed use development... AND YOU BLEW IT. Thank goodness Amazon can home deliver my stuff from Whole Foods. I will do my best to avoid this place as much...
Read moreUpdate (4/5/21): I was forced to drive into Waverly and every minute spent on the property raised my blood pressure. Traffic patterns are so poorly designed that it is impossible to feel safe while driving/walking.
The Waverly developers should be ashamed of themselves. Acres of green space and forest were mowed down to plop unsightly retail and parking lots right on Providence. Pedestrian access is negligible-you take your life into your own hands walking to/from Waverly, as well as within the complex. Why situate a McDonald's and a gas station in front? Traffic patterns within the development are not sustainable. It is impossible to figure out how to access the restaurants and retail, either on foot or by vehicle. There is very little green, community space within the development. Shame on Childress Klein for foisting this monstrosity of a development on the citizens of...
