West Branch Country Club — Local services in West Branch Township

I played here recently as part of an annual outing. I really enjoyed the course. Great track. Unfortunately, the Manager had a very bad attitude. He seemed inconvenienced by the patronage we were providing his business. He raised his voice and cursed at the man who runs our outing. Then ramrods a local duffers league right up our a**es during our 9 hole scramble that follows our 18 hole morning round.....instead of providing the timers a few on the house maybe to smooth over any slowness involved with a large group....which I guarantee would've been easily made up for by our group of golfers post round. Also, a bit of advice for The Curmudgeon riding around with the ranger flag.....maybe a little assistance in ball location down range instead of the drive-by barking would do more to help the pace of play for the groups that need it. Very unprofessional or inexperienced staff @ the Clubhouse.

Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape which is what accounts for the three star review given. However, they seriously lack knowledge in course management as they kept letting groups of six and five playing together which totally slowed pace of play in the back nine. Their “ranger” didn’t even intercede despite the fact that repeatedly there were three groups waiting on holes as a result. Voicing a complaint after the round with Mr Meathead behind the counter prompted his calling out the fact that we finished in under five hours. What he failed to realize is that the only reason we did was due to two other groups in front of us that left pissed off after the 14th and 16th holes respectively as they had enough with the slllloooowwww play. It’s unfortunate since the course was in decent shape. Maybe Mr Meathead could get some tips from the head groundskeeper on how to properly manage the pace of play so you can...

I’ve been to this course 2 times, and overall I enjoyed it both times, nicely setup, well maintained. No complaints the first time, but the second time I have a 4 some and 2 some. 2 golfers who had never golfed before, and the ranger followed us basically harassing us for the first 5 holes saying we were going to slow and we need to be no more than 15 minutes per hole. We in fact never took more than 15 minutes except for when he was nagging us and showing the newbies that had never golfed before, but as he’s teaching he’s saying “wow you’ve clearly never golfed before” and scoffing and laughing when they proceeded to not make a great shot. Again they’re beginners, and we weren’t taking a long time per hole, plus nobody was waiting on us. Just seemed unnecessary for him to follow and harass us basically the hole time.
