I have to give the shop overall a low rating all because of one stylist: Travelle Lavar. I had previously had my natural hair colored by a different stylist and I came to him for a color correction. I’ve had my hair colored since 2014 and only recently over the last few years I experienced breakage and it’s bc my former stylist stopped doing hair all together. Our first consultation was back in April and, although brief, I felt like he was the man to get the job done. I followed his Instagram page and once I saw his books were open, I booked an appointment that very second. Come the day of my appointment he said he noticed a “line of demarcation” in my hair. He never warned me of what was to come but had I known, I would’ve ran for the hills. I was in there for hours getting my hair done and afterwards, it came out exactly how it was supposed to and I was more than pleased. A few weeks later, I was washing my hair and clumps of my hair were falling out in the sink. I texted him immediately notifying him of this and I came in person as well so he could see the damage in person. He stated that he over processed my hair and my hair was breaking off at that line of demarcation. He suggested I get K18 and some other products to help restore my hair but nothing worked. I tried contacting him after that as well, and never heard from him again. I had a “waiting to exhale” moment and cut off the rest of the hair bc every hairstylist I went to afterwards said it was unsalvageable. I was hurt and distraught and now I’m on the journey of hair recovery and I’ve shaved it all off and I’m starting from square 1. I can’t speak on the other stylists that work there, but I highly suggest if your looking for a colorist, he’s...
Read moreI saw KoKo and she was on the phone as soon as I got there and didn’t really ask me much about my hair or how I wanted the silk press. In my experience most hairstyles ask if you want your hair really straight or with curls. She was on the phone most of the time of the appointment. As she was straightening my hair I told her that I wanted curls and that I didn’t want it very straight. She said, “it’s really hot so I thought you just wanted it straight.” I was at the salon in July 2021, and it was hot but I wanted to keep my hair healthy. I’m writing the review now because I’m still dealing with the heat damage to my hair. After 5 years of growing out my natural hair from previous heat damage, I had to start all over. Heat damage is real and they really should be more mindful of women who wear their hair curly most of the time instead of assuming. I canceled my next appointment as soon as I noticed the damage hair and multiple fairy knots. I would not recommend this salon.
The photos are my hair before (grey shirt) and after (burgundy shirt) going to the salon and one while at the salon.
I should add that the photos were taken one week after I got my hair done. The damage done to my hair was from the silk press, there is no debating that. I never returned to that salon and I never intend to. I have had a silk press at other salons in Chicago and did not have heat damage. In fact, they didn't make my hair bone straight because they were concerned about heat damage. And my hair still looked flawless!
Also, it's hard to communicate your needs when the person is on the phone the entire time. Very...
Read moreI visited this place a week ago. Shayla did my hair and I loved it. I've been natural 2 years and admit that I don't take great care of my hair. She definitely had a project on her hands but she didn't complain. She was punctual which is a plus. My hair was laid and she answered any questions I had. The price was $85 and as a cheapskate, I was tempted to run out, jkjk. You get what you pay for and it was well worth the money. The place itself was very clean and pretty. I'll definitely be...
